About the Bank
We are a fast-growing private bank in Tanzania with a strategic focus on trade finance, SME lending, and cross-border banking solutions. As we expand our footprint in the region and strengthen ties with the Asian business community, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to lead our Operations, Credit, and Trade Finance divisions.

Role Summary
The General Manager – Operations, Credit & Trade Finance will provide executive leadership across the bank’s core operational functions, credit risk management, and international trade finance activities. This role requires a strong strategic mindset, deep technical knowledge of banking systems, and fluency in Mandarin to effectively engage with our Chinese business clientele and partners. This role is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations

Oversee all daily banking operations including back-office processing, payments, clearing, and regulatory reporting

Drive digital transformation, operational efficiency, and process automation initiatives

Ensure compliance with Bank of Tanzania (BoT) guidelines and internal controls

Credit Management

Lead credit policy development, portfolio management, and credit approval processes

Supervise loan structuring, appraisal, disbursement, and recovery across all segments (SME, corporate, retail)

Ensure robust risk assessment aligned with IFRS 9 and BoT regulations

Trade Finance

Manage and grow the bank’s trade finance portfolio including Letters of Credit, guarantees, bills for collection, and pre/post-shipment financing

Maintain compliance with UCP 600, Incoterms, SWIFT standards, and related documentation practices

Build and maintain relationships with international correspondent banks and Chinese trading partners

Strategic & Regulatory Leadership

Represent the bank in regulatory matters and prepare for BoT audits and inspections

Develop and implement policies to manage risk, enhance service delivery, and support growth

Work closely with executive management to align departmental goals with overall strategy

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, or related field; MBA or Master’s degree preferred

Minimum of 12–15 years of experience in banking, with at least 5 years in senior management roles

Proven leadership in operations, credit risk, and trade finance (ideally with exposure to African and/or Asian markets)

Deep knowledge of credit and trade finance instruments, processes, and regulatory frameworks

Familiarity with core banking systems (e.g., Flexcube, Finacle, T24)

Strong understanding of Bank of Tanzania regulations, AML/CFT compliance, and IFRS

Language Requirements

Fluency in Mandarin (spoken and written) is mandatory

Excellent communication skills in English
