General Manager, ESG

Looking for an ESG and sustainability manager based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Your new role

As a key leader, you will oversee a dedicated team of three, driving the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across the organisation's operations and strategic decisions. Your job scope includes:

1. Support and execute comprehensive ESG strategies aligned with the organisation's values, goals, and industry best practices.
2. Identify and prioritise key ESG issues relevant to the business operations and industry sector.
3. Support the development of ESG performance metrics, targets, and reporting mechanisms to track progress and ensure accountability.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ESG considerations into business processes, product development, and supply chain management.
5. Risk mitigation: Support ESG risk assessments and provide guidance & maximise opportunities for positive impact.
6. Stakeholder communication: Engage with investors, analysts, customers, and others to communicate our ESG initiatives and performance effectively.
7. Cultivate partnerships with external organisations, NGOs, and industry peers to advance collective ESG goals and drive innovation.

What you'll need to succeed

As a general manager of ESG, you will need:

1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, sustainability, business management, or a related discipline. Advanced degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 13–15 years of experience in ESG management, corporate sustainability, or related fields, with a proven track record of success.
3. Deep knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards, and reporting guidelines i.e. Bursa standards, with a strong affinity for sustainability’s purpose, and a self-starter keen to embark on and deliver new projects that may challenge the status quo of internal operations.
4. A team player, with strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills to convince peers and other stakeholders about the importance of ESG initiatives in their operations and work.
5. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data and trends related to environmental, social, and governance issues.
6. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, manage timelines, and drive initiatives to completion.
