Job Purpose
To oversee and manage the full operational lifecycle of the company’s fleet, including both common vehicles (cars, trucks, lorries) and rail-bound machinery (RBM) such as tamping machines, MPVs, and locomotives. This includes ensuring optimal machine utilization, workshop operations, regulatory compliance, maintenance planning, crew deployment, and cost control in support of efficient railway construction operations.
Educational Qualifications
• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Transport Management, or a related field
• Certification in Fleet Management or Heavy Equipment Maintenance is an added advantage
Experience
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in fleet and heavy machinery management, with at least 5 years in a managerial role
• Experience in railway construction, rail bound plant, or similar infrastructure industry is strongly preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead the operations and maintenance of the vehicle and RBM fleet, ensuring all assets are safe, roadworthy, and working condition
• Supervise workshop teams in executing scheduled and corrective maintenance activities
• Implement preventive maintenance plans and ensure timely service of all vehicles and machinery
• Manage daily and long-term scheduling of machinery and crew deployment to project sites based on operational needs
• Monitor asset utilization, downtime, and performance KPIs to improve operational efficiency
• Oversee fleet budgeting, including maintenance costs, parts procurement, fuel tracking, and cost optimization
• Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements including PUSPAKOM inspections, road tax, permits, and licenses
• Coordinate with project and site teams to forecast machine requirements and align asset availability accordingly
• Maintain accurate records of fleet inventory, inspection logs, maintenance history, insurance, and roadworthiness certifications
• Liaise with OEMs, workshops, and external vendors for parts, repairs, and service contracts
• Train and supervise drivers, machine operators, and workshop personnel to ensure adherence to safety and maintenance protocols
• Manage emergency repairs and unexpected breakdowns to minimize project downtime
• Prepare operational reports, budgets, and asset condition summaries for management review
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and industry best practices
• Perform any other ad hoc duties or assignments as may be directed by the Project Head or senior management from time to time
Requirements & Skills
• Strong technical knowledge of both on-road vehicles and rail bound machinery.
• Hands-on experience in workshop operations, fleet tracking systems, and maintenance planning
• Knowledge of transport regulations, including PUSPAKOM, road transport licensing, and inspection regimes
• Excellent leadership and team management abilities
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Ability to manage budgets, analyze operational data, and optimize costs
• Good interpersonal and communication skills to liaise across departments and external vendors
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fleet management or maintenance software systems
• Able to work under pressure and in a fast-paced project environment
