Financial Controller (Property Development)

Job Summary
Responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a publicly traded construction and development company. This role requires deep expertise in construction finance, large-scale project funding, and PLC governance. The person in this role ensures financial health, regulatory compliance, and risk management while driving strategies that support sustainable growth, shareholder value, and operational excellence in a capital-intensive, project-driven environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company's business objectives and shareholder expectations.
  • Provide financial advice and insights to the Board of Directors, guiding decision-making and supporting company-wide initiatives.
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and risk management strategies.
  • Optimize the capital structure to support large-scale construction projects by securing tailored project-specific financing.
  • Manage working capital and ensure robust cash flow planning for multi-phase construction projects.
  • Ensure strict adherence to corporate governance standards, stock exchange regulations, statutory reporting requirements, and potentially manage or lead the company's ESG strategy.
  • Oversee audits, risk assessments, and compliance with construction-specific contracts.
  • Maintain accountability for tax optimization, regulatory filings, and legal obligations.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to evaluate project profitability, manage cost overruns, and streamline procurement.
  • Implement financial controls and digital solutions to enhance contract management and reporting transparency.
  • Review and negotiate terms for major contracts and supplier agreements.
  • Communicate with shareholders, analysts, and institutional investors to provide updates on financial performance and corporate strategy.
  • Prepare and present quarterly earnings reports, AGM materials, and shareholder communications.
  • Manage relationships with lenders, banks, and other financial stakeholders to secure funding for infrastructure projects.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field with professional qualifications (e.g., ACCA, MIA). An MBA or Master’s in Finance is an advantage.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a PLC environment.
  • Proven expertise in construction, real estate development, or infrastructure finance.
  • Strong knowledge of construction cost management, project financing, and capital investment strategies.
  • Deep understanding of PLC regulatory requirements, IFRS/GAAP/MFRS standards, and financial modeling for large-scale developments.
  • Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.
