Job description

Company Information

A company based in Terengganu is currently looking for an Account and Finance Manager role. This role will be reporting to the CFO based in Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead and manage all aspects of financial operations, including monthly closings, financial analysis, and reporting.

  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.

  • Oversee monthly management reports, quarterly board reports, and ensure timely financial reporting for board and management meetings.

  • Review and analyze financial trends, forecasts, variances, and key performance indicators to support strategic decision-making.

2. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control

  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in collaboration with relevant departments.

  • Implement and maintain robust budgeting and costing systems, ensuring proper control mechanisms and variance analysis.

  • Monitor and manage cash flow, receivables, and payables to ensure financial stability and operational efficiency.

3. Accounting Operations

  • Manage the full set of accounts, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and fixed asset schedules.

  • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.

  • Oversee the processing of payment vouchers, invoices, petty cash claims, and tax reconciliations.

  • Ensure all month-end processes and reconciliations (AR, AP, bank, tax, and duties) are completed on time.

4. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, internal controls, and accounting standards.

  • Keep abreast of changes in financial legislation, accounting principles, and regulatory updates.

5. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, tax agents, banks, government bodies, and other stakeholders.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external parties, including board members and investors.

6. Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and manage the Finance & Accounts Department, aligning team goals with company objectives.

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing finance team, fostering a professional and positive work environment.

  • Provide training and continuous development opportunities to enhance team capabilities.

  • Support the General Manager in financial planning, performance review, and strategic initiatives.

7. Other Duties

  • Perform other ad-hoc duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superior.

  • Uphold company values, demonstrate leadership by example, and contribute to a culture of excellence and accountability.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required.

  • Postgraduate qualifications such as a Master’s degree, MBA, or Postgraduate Diploma are preferred.

  • Professional accounting certifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CA) are highly desirable.


Experience:

  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant post-degree experience in accounting and finance roles.

  • At least 5 years in a finance leadership position, with demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage departmental operations.

  • Experience in business partnering, financial consulting, or strategic finance roles is a strong advantage.

  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in interpreting financial data and translating insights into actionable business recommendations.
