Job description

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with the Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS).

Ensure accurate general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, and timely closing of accounts.

Manage statutory audits, tax submissions (corporate tax, SST), and liaise with auditors, tax agents, and the Inland Revenue Board etc.

Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal control policies, and reporting deadlines.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable accounting standards and regulatory changes.

2. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning

Lead the annual budgeting exercise and coordinate with all departments to consolidate budget proposals.

Monitor actuals vs. budget and provide in-depth variance analysis with justifications.

Perform cash flow forecasting and scenario planning to anticipate business needs.

Support business decision-making through ROI analysis, financial projections, and investment appraisals.

3. Treasury & Working Capital Management

Monitor daily cash position and ensure optimal cash utilization across business units.

Manage banking relationships and oversee loan documentation, repayment schedules, and interest charges.

Evaluate and implement trade finance facilities (bank guarantees, etc.).

Ensure healthy aging of receivables and payables; monitor credit risks and collection performance.

4. Cost Control & Margin Optimization

Implement cost monitoring frameworks and cost-saving initiatives across the group of companies.

Analyze direct and indirect cost structures (e.g. freight forwarding, trucking, warehousing, payroll, utilities).

Evaluate pricing models and assess margin sustainability at branch, customer, and service-type levels.

Identify financial leakages and develop mitigation plans.

Establish and review internal financial controls, including authorization limits and approval workflows.

Lead periodic reviews of SOPs and implement improvements to reduce financial risks and inefficiencies.

Oversee asset tracking, insurance coverage, and risk exposure related to finance operations.

Ensure compliance with ISO requirements or other audit frameworks.

6. Systems & Process Improvements

Drive automation and digitization of financial processes, including invoicing, reporting, and reconciliations.

Collaborate with IT to optimize ERP or accounting system usage (e.g., SQL, SAP).

Train and supervise finance staff on process updates, system enhancements, and best practices.

7. Strategic Support & Cross-Department Collaboration

Provide financial insights and dashboards for board meetings and management reviews.

Participate in contract review and pricing strategy discussions from a financial perspective.

Collaborate with HR on payroll budgeting and employee cost forecasts.

Support procurement and logistics departments in supplier evaluation and capital expenditure planning.

Lead and supervise the finance team, setting KPIs and performance targets.

Coach and develop team members to build financial capabilities within the department.

Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining accountability for financial accuracy and timeliness.

Represent the Finance Department in internal and external meetings.

Prepare ad hoc financial analyses as required by management.
