Job description

Company Background

Our client is a China-based apparel manufacturer with a newly established subsidiary in Malaysia, committed to developing, branding, and expanding the market for traditional Malay menswear. As they grow their presence locally, they are seeking passionate and experienced Fashion Designers to be part of the pioneering team in Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities

1.Design Development

  • Create original and trend-sensitive designs for traditional Malay menswear (e.g. Baju Melayu, Sampin, Kurta), ensuring cultural authenticity and contemporary relevance.
  • Research current market trends, fabrics, colors, and styles relevant to the Malay fashion scene.

2. Product & Sample Management

  • Conduct sourcing and purchasing of materials and sample pieces required for design inspiration and development.
  • Develop design concepts from sketching to final technical drawings for prototyping and sampling.

3. End-to-End Design Execution

  • Manage the entire design lifecycle, from conceptualization and material selection to sample production and final handoff to the manufacturing team.
  • Collaborate closely with pattern makers, tailors, and the production team to ensure accuracy, fit, and quality.
  • Work closely with the marketing, operations, and business development teams to align product launches with seasonal campaigns and distribution timelines.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of fashion design experience, especially in traditional Malay clothing.
  • Prior experience working with established local Malay fashion brands is highly preferred.
  • Proficient in Bahasa Melayu and English for daily communication.
  • Strong understanding of design processes, material sourcing, and production coordination.
  • Familiarity with local supply chains and established industry networks or distribution channels.
