Responsible for the overall engineering, operation, reliability, maintenance and continuous improvement of facility infrastructure and critical utilities to ensure safe, reliable and uninterrupted support to manufacturing operations. The Facility Engineer shall provide technical leadership for facility systems, drive preventive and predictive maintenance, manage facility projects, improve energy efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance and lead troubleshooting and root-cause investigations for facility-related failures.
Key responsibilities
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Manage and maintain critical facility systems including electrical distribution, HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, compressed air systems, water supply systems, STP/WTP, generators, UPS, fire protection, building services, and BMS.
- Monitor facility performance and ensure high system availability and reliability.
- Establish operating standards, maintenance strategies, and equipment specifications.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Develop and manage maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability.
- Conduct failure analysis and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major breakdowns.
- Improve equipment uptime, MTBF, and reduce MTTR and unplanned downtime.
- Develop spare parts and asset reliability strategies.
Energy & Sustainability
- Monitor utility consumption including electricity, water, and compressed air.
- Identify and implement energy-saving and sustainability initiatives.
- Support energy efficiency and solar PV projects.
- Track utility KPIs and cost reduction programs.
Project Management
- Lead facility improvement, expansion, and modification projects.
- Prepare technical specifications, scope of work, budgets, and schedules.
- Manage contractors during installation, testing, commissioning, and project handover.
- Ensure projects meet safety, quality, cost, and timeline requirements.
EHS & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian statutory requirements and EHS standards.
- Support OSHA, environmental, electrical safety, fire safety, and ISO standards compliance.
- Participate in audits and drive timely closure of audit findings.
- Implement HIRARC, JSA, Permit-to-Work (PTW), and LOTO requirements.
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Manage facility service providers, contractors, and specialist vendors.
- Evaluate technical proposals, quotations, and service reports.
- Monitor contractor safety, quality, and overall performance.
Leadership
- Provide technical guidance to facility technicians and maintenance teams.
- Support team competency development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, EHS, Security, and cross-functional teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facility Engineering, Building Services, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in facility engineering within manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of industrial utility and facility systems.
- Experience in maintenance management, facility reliability, and project execution.
- Strong troubleshooting and RCA skills.
- Experience managing contractors and vendors.
- Good understanding of EHS and regulatory compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, semiconductor, or electronics industries.
- Knowledge of energy management and sustainability initiatives.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and RBA requirements.
- Experience using CMMS and BMS systems.
- Lean Six Sigma knowledge is an advantage.
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
