Coherent Corp. in Malaysia is seeking an Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer to support failure analysis for customer returns, production fallout, and reliability improvements.

You will work with cross-functional teams to identify failure mechanisms, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions. Responsibilities include detailed FA on RMAs, root cause analysis using 5 Why, Fishbone, and 8D, and preparing FA reports within the agreed turnaround time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Optoelectronics/Telecommunications or related engineering.
• 2–5+ years in technical support, applications engineering, failure analysis, product engineering, semiconductor or electronics.
• Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

Responsabilités

• Perform detailed electrical failure analysis on RMAs and production fallout units.
• Identify failure mechanisms and root causes.
• Prepare comprehensive FA reports with results, conclusions and corrective actions within turnaround time.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Design and cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
• Participate in customer technical discussions as needed.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot FA equipment and calibrate as required.
• Support development of failure analysis methodologies and test procedures.
• Document failure analysis activities, data, equipment conditions, and actions.

Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer to support failure analysis activities for customer returns, production fallout, and product reliability improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify failure mechanisms, determine root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform detailed electrical failure analysis on RMA (Return Material Authorization) units and internal production fallout units to identify failure mechanisms and potential root causes.
2. Conduct systematic root cause analysis using engineering and quality methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone Analysis, and 8D, and collaborate with relevant engineering teams to develop corrective and preventive solutions.
3. Prepare comprehensive failure analysis (FA) reports documenting test results, findings, root cause, conclusions, and recommended corrective actions within the agreed turnaround time (TAT).
4. Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Design, and other cross-functional teams to resolve product issues and drive continuous improvement in product quality and reliability.
5. Participate in customer technical discussions related to product failures, failure mechanisms, corrective actions, and product reliability when required.
6. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot failure analysis equipment, ensuring all equipment is properly calibrated, functional, and maintained according to applicable procedures.
7. Support the development and improvement of failure analysis methodologies, test procedures, and troubleshooting techniques to improve analysis efficiency and accuracy.
8. Maintain proper documentation of failure analysis activities, test data, equipment conditions, and corrective actions.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Optoelectronics, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
2. 2–5+ years of experience in technical support, applications engineering, failure analysis, product engineering, semiconductor, electronics, or a related field. Fresh graduates are also encouraged to apply.
3. Basic knowledge of optical devices, optical components, and their operating principles will be an added advantage.

Technical Skills

1. Strong understanding of electronic systems, embedded systems, semiconductor products, and electronic circuits.
2. Hands-on experience with failure analysis and electronic test equipment, such as:
   • Digital Communication Analyzer (DCA)
   • Curve Tracer
   • Oscilloscope
   • Digital Multimeter (DMM)
   • LCR Meter
   • High- and low-magnification microscopes
   • Other electrical and optical failure analysis equipment
3. Strong ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical circuit diagrams and schematics.
4. Good understanding of electronics troubleshooting and failure analysis methodologies.
5. Familiarity with quality and statistical tools such as SPC, FMEA, JMP, and 8D.

2. Good communication, presentation, documentation, and technical report-writing skills.
3. Able to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional support teams.
