Export Control & Customs Compliance Specialist

Overview
Sepang Aircraft Engineering Sdn Bhd, an Airbus SAS subsidiary and part of the Airbus Group, is an EASA approved, independent Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) service provider for commercial aircraft, engines and components since 2006, dedicated to providing Airbus aircraft support services in the South East Asia region. Based in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, our 17,000 square meter facility can accommodate multiple aircraft and provides complete MRO services. Responsibilities
- Classify products under ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) and HS (Harmonized System) codes.
- Screen transactions against Denied Parties Lists (DPL) and embargoed countries per OFAC, ITAR, EAR, and EU regulations.
- Manage export licensing processes, including applications, renewals, and record keeping.
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, and FTR (Foreign Trade Regulations).
- Customs Compliance: Ensure accurate customs declarations, valuation, and duty optimization (e.g., preferential tariffs under FTAs).
- Maintain compliance with CBP, EU Customs Code, and other regional customs laws.
- Resolve customs disputes, penalties, or audits in collaboration with brokers and legal teams.
- Trade Documentation & Processes: Review and approve commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin.
- Maintain records per customs and export control retention policies (e.g., 5+ years for EAR/ITAR).
- Implement effective trade compliance processes to streamline workflows.
- Secondary Responsibilities: Support supply chain teams in assessing trade risks for new suppliers, countries, or products.
- Train employees on export/customs compliance policies and regulatory updates.
- Monitor changes in trade sanctions, embargoes, or customs laws and update internal procedures.
- Assist in post-entry audits, duty drawback claims, and customs valuation disputes.
- Collaborate with logistics providers to ensure smooth cross-border shipments.
- Lead and manage initiatives to reduce non-moving inventory in MRO.
Qualifications
- Experience in export control, customs compliance, and trade documentation within an aerospace or MRO environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ECCN, HS codes, OFAC, ITAR, EAR, EU regulations, CBP, and EU Customs Code.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, audits, and maintain regulatory records.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with internal teams and external partners.
- Willingness to stay current with sanctions and regulatory changes.
