Job description

JOB PURPOSE

• Responsible in overseeing the legal matters within MHB Group by providing accurate and timely advice on legal matters and ensuring legal compliance to promote business achievements and safeguard the Group’s interest.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review and provide general advisory role to the management within the spectrum of the Group’s business activities in its quest to become a leading marine and heavy engineering organization of choice.
• Review and provide legal advice on matters relating to contractual documents (e.g. tenders and bids, sponsorship and bonds, employment and agreements) for Offshore and Marine Repair Business Units and other service units ensuring that any legal and binding contract(s) to be entered by MHB Group will have minimum and acceptable level(s) of legal and commercial risks.
• Review and draft MHB’s or any of its subsidiaries’ local / international new business strategies/business ventures (e.g. acquisitions/ mergers, MOUs / MOAs) and make recommendations / proposals for possible revisions / amendments on the legal aspects of the undertakings to protect MHB’s interest with minimal risk exposure.
• Identification of the legal implication to MHB’s Group and provide advice to the management on the claim or defence strategy, identify, appoint, and collaborate with the appointed external legal firms to handle the legal case.
• Manage and supervise the provision of legal services for MHB Group’s industrial relations matters relating to disciplinary and dismissal cases as and when required. Act as company’s Legal Counsel / representative at Domestic Inquiry sessions.
• Build professional relationships with MHB Group’s customers (e.g. business / service units and subsidiaries, fabricators, shipyard owners, government bodies, fabricators, designers, vendors and service-providers) to promote and safeguard the Group’s interests.
• Collaborate with external appointed legal firms / penal lawyers that provide legal documentation, verification, registration, advisory and litigation services to ensure that the Group’s requirements are translated/embedded into a proper legal framework.
• Create and maintain a healthy and conducive work culture at the Legal Division that encourages cohesiveness and commitment among staff and promotes a global championship mindset to improve productivity and to maintain high standards of service and show leadership, sense of direction, to motivate and to promote leadership performance to take MHB to greater heights.

REQUIREMENT

• Bachelor of Laws from a recognised local or foreign university
• Being called to the Malaysian Bar
• Having at least 3-5 years of experience in corporate, engineering and construction contracts and litigation.
