Job summary

Hong Leong Bank is seeking a Finance/Analytics professional in Kuala Lumpur to support management reporting and competitor intelligence. The role emphasizes building data-driven insights, leveraging Power BI/Tableau, and collaborating with senior leaders.

You will assist with executive packs, track banking metrics, and explore AI-enabled automation to improve efficiency and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Academic background in finance/accounting/economics/banking or related quantitative field.
• Fresh graduates or 1–2 years experience; professional certifications (ACCA/CPA/CFA) advantage.
• Strong grasp of financial statements, banking metrics and core accounting principles.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivots, basic modeling); comfortable with large datasets.
• Familiarity with Power BI/Tableau and GenAI tools to enhance reporting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in executive reporting for monthly and quarterly packs.
• Analyze revenue drivers, NIM, and cost structures to explain variances.
• Track NTB, cross-selling depth, and balance sheet growth.
• Support senior team with ad-hoc data pulls and visual slides for CFO/leadership.
• Benchmark competitors and prepare decks comparing Malaysian banks.
• Maintain organized repository of competitor metrics and BN M releases.

Key Responsibilities

1. Management Reporting & Customer Analytics Support

• Executive Reporting Assistance: Help gather, structure, and sanitize financial data for monthly and quarterly Board and Management Committee performance packs.

• Variance & Profitability Analysis: Learn to analyze revenue drivers, net interest margins (NIM), and cost structures to explain the “why” behind variances in financial results.

• Customer Portfolio Tracking: Assist in tracking New-to-Bank (NTB) acquisition, cross-selling depth, and balance sheet growth, connecting customer dynamics to financial outcomes.

• Agile Ad-Hoc Requests: Support senior team members in preparing high-priority data pulls and visual slides for the CFO and senior leadership.

2. Competitor Benchmarking & Market Intelligence

• Earnings Season Execution: Support the rapid collection and compilation of competitor financial data immediately following quarterly bank earnings announcements.

• Peer Comparison Packs: Assist in preparing analytical decks comparing the Top 5 Malaysian Banks (MBB, CIMB, PBB, RHB, & AMMB) against HLBG to highlight market trends and performance gaps.

• Database & Repository Maintenance: Help maintain an organized, up-to-date repository of competitor financial metrics, analyst presentation decks, and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) statistical releases.

3. Innovation & AI Exploration

• Modern Tools Adoption: Explore and leverage generative AI, Power BI, and Tableau to automate routine data workflows, create dynamic charts, and turn complex numbers into clear visual stories.

Job Requirements

Education & Qualification

• Academic Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, or a related quantitative field (Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics).

• Target Experience: Fresh graduates or early-career professionals with up to 1–2 years of experience. High academic standing or active progress toward professional certifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CFA) is an advantage.

Technical Skills & Aptitude

• Financial Foundations: Strong grasp of basic financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet), core banking metrics, and accounting principles.

• Excel & Data Skills: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, basic modeling). High comfort level with handling large datasets.

• Data Visualization & AI Aptitude: Familiarity with or eagerness to learn Power BI, Tableau, and GenAI tools to enhance reporting efficiency and visual presentations.
