Job summary

Sandisk is seeking a Virtual Factory Engineer in Malaysia to develop, support, and optimize Virtual Factory systems across multiple manufacturing sites. Job Description The Virtual Factory Engineer is responsible for developing, supporting, and optimizing Virtual Factory systems to ensure efficient, reliable, and data-driven semiconductor manufacturing operations. This role collaborates closely with sister plan in Shanghai and contract manufacturing to improve factory performance, productivity, equipment utilization, and manufacturing efficiency through digital transformation, automation, and advanced data analytics.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Virtual Factory systems to support semiconductor manufacturing operations across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate with sister plants in Shanghai and contract manufacturing partners to standardize Virtual Factory solutions, manufacturing processes, and best practices.
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize manufacturing performance using real-time factory data, dashboards, and advanced analytics.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives by integrating automation, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and smart manufacturing technologies.
  • Design, develop, and enhance data visualization dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools to improve operational decision-making.
  • Perform root cause analysis on manufacturing issues using statistical methods and data analytics and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with Process, Equipment, Manufacturing, Quality, IT, and Automation teams to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Validate and troubleshoot Virtual Factory applications, ensuring system stability, accuracy, and high availability.
  • Coordinate system upgrades, software releases, and change management activities while minimizing manufacturing disruptions.
  • Participate in cross-functional problem-solving teams to improve manufacturing stability, productivity, and operational excellence.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to enhance factory automation and digital manufacturing capabilities.
  • Support global manufacturing initiatives by sharing knowledge, best practices, and technical expertise across worldwide manufacturing sites.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
  • Able to work independently with less supervision.
  • Able to lead the team using root cause analysis techniques to solve complex problem with/without internal data.
  • Pro-active applying new methods or approaches under minimal supervision.
  • Creative in leading executing projects and any others related activities as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications

Required:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Master’s Degree is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, factory automation, manufacturing systems, or Virtual Factory environment.
  • Experience working with sister plants, global manufacturing teams, or contract manufacturing partners is preferred.
  • Experience supporting high-volume semiconductor manufacturing operations is an advantage.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes and factory operations - SIP and SSD.
  • Good knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Factory Automation (FA), and Manufacturing Intelligence platforms.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Yield Improvement, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Problem-Solving methodologies (8D, DMAIC, PDCA, Fishbone, 5 Why).

  • Mandarin language proficiency is an added advantage for collaboration with sister plants in Shanghai.

Preferred

  • Experience with AI, Machine Learning, or Predictive Analytics in manufacturing
  • Experience with Digital Twin or Virtual Factory implementation.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and factory automation systems.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, PMP, Agile, or Data Analytics is an added advantage.
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing digital transformation initiatives.
