Position Focus:
The Factory NPI Quality Engineer coordinates launch activities at the manufacturing site, develops and verifies launch process quality documents, and supports program management gate reviews. They are part of the project team, ensuring manufacturability and quality requirements are met while mitigating risks. Additionally, they serve as the focal point for deploying relevant Quality Systems requirements within the factory.
- Ensure execution of Product Quality Planning (PQP) delivered from the design site Quality Program Manager (QPM).
- Oversee the factory NPI production line under quality control, including firewall/line stop control.
- Lead manufacturing and process activities during NPI to address build issues related to manufacturing and design.
- Consolidate build performance reports within the NPI team and align quality statements with the QPM and Program Manager.
- Manage the Safe Launch Control Plan, Critical To Quality (CTQ), and Process Control Plan to ensure flawless launch results.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field from an accredited institution.
- Advanced Degree in Engineering or Science – preferred.
- MBA – preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
Position Specific Requirements:
Required:
- Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills.
- Practical experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools and NPI program management.
- Proficiency in problem-solving tools such as 8D methodology, Fishbone diagrams, Brainstorming, and 5 Why analysis.
- Competence in quality tools and process control methods like Control Plans, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and product lifecycle and reliability assessments.
- Ability to interpret specifications and understand quality parameters and product requirements.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of customer-specific requirements.
- Experience with manufacturing of highly engineered, precision power conversion, measurement, and control solutions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead manufacturing site’s NPI deliverables, ensuring completion of required quality documents during initial product launch phases.
- Act as liaison for all Advanced Quality Planning activities, including internal gate reviews with the Business Unit and program team.
- Ensure full compliance of product specifications for sample shipments.
- Support and execute PQP activities and confirm controls are incorporated into the Control Plan.
- Coordinate development and implementation of Poke Yoke strategies and controls.
- Confirm manufacturing readiness for launching programs and product/process changes.
- Participate in launch meetings and customer reviews/audits.
- Develop and maintain production process Control Plans, CTQ, and Safe Launch Plans until formal production start.
- Coach manufacturing teams on customer and site quality requirements.
- Monitor FA part approval of supplied components.
- Conduct program gate reviews to verify site readiness, document completion, and compliance with program commitments.
- Ensure MSA studies and Gage R&R are conducted adequately for launch programs.
- Possess authority to halt processes or product delivery in case of non-conformance, safety, or environmental risks.
