Purpose of the position
- Ensure that all electrical systems provide adequate functionality at required reliability with minimum cost of ownership in compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Support the implementation of a strategy for sourcing, engineering, maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems in a standardised way.
- Support the continuous improvement of assets, work processes and people capabilities to maximize business profitability optimizing functionality, reliability, efficiency and lifecycle cost of electrical systems.
Functional area of activity :
Operation, engineering, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems including:
- High/Medium/Low voltage substations and switchgears,
- Motor Control Centers,
- Variable Frequency Drives,
- Battery & UPS system,
- Electrical control systems
- Electrical measuring & billing systems
- Motors & heaters, Power generators, Transformers, portable electrical consumers Lighting, grounding, domestic electrical installations,
- PA system, communication and alarm systems, CCTV
- Predictive Maintenance tools - Partial Discharge monitoring, Transient Earth Voltage Measurement, Thermography etc.
- Electrical Operator Authority Training.
Principal responsibilities
Leadership
- Collaborate with the site teams to improve reliability of the plant assets.
- Train, assess and certify the technical competence of Electrical Chargeman and Technicians in the site teams.
- Manage contractors and suppliers.
Operations
- Perform reliability / safety audits of electrical systems and related workflows. Define and follow up on the resulting actions in collaboration with site teams.
- Provide electrical systems technical support to the operating sites and Remote Operating Centre as required.
Maintenance
- Implement a strategy for the sourcing, replacement, engineering, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems. This includes:
- Defining which activities should be insourced or outsourced
- Standardisation of equipment and service providers (incl. frame contracts)
- Identification, selection & development of service providers
- Identification of obsolescence issues and planning & execution of suitable upgrade & exchange programs
- Application and ongoing management of condition-based maintenance strategies and the associated data
- Assess the competence of maintenance personnel for electrical systems (internal or external)and ensure that gaps between the actual and the required competence are closed.
- Ensure that maintenance for electrical systems is adequate, cost efficient and in compliance to Linde work processes
- Review and support the development of electrical scope of major turnarounds
Modifications
- Develop and/or review all major modifications and configuration changes to the electrical systems.
- Ensure update of the related plant documents in document management system after modification
- Lead implementation of initiatives resulting from alerts, Lessons from Reliability Events and directives
- For regionally driven projects, work with the project management functions to provide input to:
- Scope definition, costing & schedule
- Specification of respective equipment & services
- Selection of vendors & service suppliers
- Subcontract construction & installation activities
- Testing & commissioning for major modifications of the existing electrical systems
- (including emergency situations).
- Ensure relevant requirements are defined and reviewed by members of the team
- Ensure electrical system structures & vendors are compliant with Linde standards and
- Specific project/site requirements
- Participate in relevant project reviews and acceptance (incl. factory and site acceptance tests, handover of systems)
- Ensure maintenance teams are trained to operate, maintain and troubleshoot the new systems
- Ensure all necessary documents are handed over, are of good quality and are stored in the Linde Gas Global Document Management system in a standardized way
- Collaborate with vendors & service providers to ensure alignment with Linde maintenance teams for troubleshooting and service.
- Support implementation of the 'Integrate new assets' workflow.
Troubleshooting
- Provide the site teams with necessary expert support in emergency situations.
- Support the local investigation of electrical system related trips.
- Prepare contingency plans for site.
- Lead or facilitate root cause failure analysis for major (>10,000 USD) or repeated downtimes.
- Feedback learnings from incidents to Reliability Improvement team and support creation of
LFREs'.
- Reporting / performance management.
- Review downtime reporting of electrical system failures at sites.
- Review internal and external maintenance cost.
- Review open actions for sites and provide direct support for site teams to close actions.
- Report implementation status of initiatives resulting from alerts, Lessons from Reliability
Events and directives.

- Experience in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and design of high voltage electrical systems.
- Broad experience with electrical isolation and re-energisation.
- Detailed technical knowledge of relevant electrical equipment and systems.
- Good background in electrical safety with knowledge of hazards involved in operation and maintenance of electrical systems.
- In depth-knowledge of predictive and preventative maintenance techniques including the use of SAP PM to manage these processes.
- Detailed knowledge with relevant national and international codes and standards.
- Basic Knowledge of ASU / HYCO / CO2 plants including the associated hazards.
- Familiarity with Process & Instrumentation (P&I), logics and control loop diagrams with knowledge of control systems.
- Experience in root cause failure analysis.
- Strong capability to facilitate or lead risk assessments and make risk-based decisions.
Required qualifications/experience
- Bachelor Degree in electrical engineering preferably with major in electrical power distribution and drives.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as electrical maintenance and/or design engineer for process plants with high voltage systems.
- Experience in designing and building electrical systems would be an advantage.
- Experience of using Computerized Maintenance Management System preferably SAP PM would be an advantage.
