Our Endoscopy Research and Development team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about improving patient outcomes across our wide range of complex systems-based products. Job Responsibilities
- Develop product requirements
- Design, develop, debug, modify, and test mechanical design solutions using current tools, analysis techniques, and technologies
- Review electrical, mechanical, and optical designs and changes to ensure the development of appropriate test methods
- Define strategy and perform product design and testing in compliance with medical device regulations
- Develop and execute test methods and fixtures for design verification
- Define and execute test plans to support design verification
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Optical Engineers to develop opto-electromechanical test methods
- Provide mechanical troubleshooting of prototype devices to aid product development
- Perform troubleshooting on new products/process problems related to design, material, or process as a hands-on Engineer
- Conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality or to assess existing technologies
- Solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations
- Analyze and interpret complex test results, drawing conclusions
- Prepare detailed reports and communicate results to diverse audiences
- Maintain engineering documentation
- Build proactive relationships and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet stakeholder needs
- Identify and establish relationships with external device manufacturers
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 8 years in product development
- Proficiency in mechanical engineering principles
- Deep knowledge of design verification in a regulated industry
- Experience with lab equipment for characterizing mechanical attributes
- Effective communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal)
- Experience with Design Controls or equivalent in the Medical Device Industry
- Willingness to travel 10-20%, including internationally
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in medical devices
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of imaging-based medical devices, both clinical and technical
- Proficiency with optical principles
- Understanding of electrical safety standards (IEC 60601-1), HF (IEC 60601-2-2), and EMI/EMC standards (60601)
