Job description
The ams OSRAM Opto Semiconductors business offers high-performance opto semiconductor components and in-depth support for state-of-the-art system solutions based on innovative semiconductor light sources. The Business Unit can look back on almost fifty years of production and development expertise.
  • This role contributes to activities within a worldwide end-to-end product development team focused on successfully developing, prototyping, and producing advanced optoelectronic components (optics + opto-/electronics + package).
  • Supporting product development projects through concept definition, detailed optical design, simulation and prototyping.
  • Work within a worldwide multidisciplinary development team to provide optical design solutions to customer specifications. Design system-level optical simulation models in-line with requirements.
  • Perform extensive optical component / optical system performance simulation as well as analysis on the fundamental behavior of light interacting with the device / product.
  • Interpret and report on results including recommendations for optimization.
  • Perform verification studies and root-cause analysis regarding the optical system based on measured data from prototyping and production.
  • Generate product documentation including optical design specifications, shell models for customer design-ins (e.g. ray file databases) and optical design performances reports.
  • Perform engineering product verification to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • Cooperate with Project Leaders to assure design to be compliant with mechanical and manufacturing ground-rules.
  • Defining and implementing optical systems with internal and external partners.
  • Be an innovator and thoughtful technical leader; regularly develop and protect new IP through patent filings.
  • Masters or PhD degree in Physics, Optics, Optical Engineering or related technical fields.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in above fields.
  • Strong design and simulation experience required in micro-optical systems (e.g. systems incl. micro lens arrays) ready for mass production (e.g. for consumer electronics applications).
  • Experience in design and simulation in the following fields preferred: non-imaging optics (beam shaping, tailored flood illumination, concentration, collection a.o.) and wave-optics (diffractive meta-optics, structured light illumination).
  • Knowledge of optics fundamentals, optical sensing, as well as optical and micro-optics technologies, materials, components, manufacturing processes, and constraints.
  • Hands-on experience with modelling complex optical systems and light behavior analysis using common, industry-standard tools such as Zemax, CodeV and/or LightTools, TracePro; experience with Virtual Lab Fusion is a plus.
  • Profound experience in large data processing and statistical analysis using MATLAB, Python or other programmable analysis environments is beneficial.
  • Self-motivated, creative problem solver, to participate in cross-functional development teams.
  • Customer-oriented attitude with good communication skills and proficiency in English required.
  • Willingness to travel worldwide and work in intercultural and interdisciplinary teams.
