• Responsible for the provision of legal advice and manage the Bank's portfolio of various legal issues which have a significant and direct impact on the Bank's and/or Group's business to safeguard the Bank/Group's position and interests.
• This entails advising, directing and solving immediate problems encountered and using information to recommend and validate changes to enable business to proceed in a safe and profitable manner.
• Capable of taking on case complexity independently, requiring guidance from Senior Legal Counsel.
• Accountable and responsible in reviewing and analyzing the Group's conventional and Islamic products, transactions activities, assist the business/operational units in developing conventional and Islamic products for the Group and other legal management work for the Group including review of service, procurement, tenancy and collaboration/sponsorship agreements.
• Also responsible for maintaining contract life cycle management processes & ensure documentation is in line with the updated rules and regulation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provide legal advice to management in order that the Group's companies/business risk may be mitigated.
• Ensure charge-outs of Legal Services are reported and allotted in accordance to Business Units.
• Ensuring value for money and quality of legal services provided to the business units.
• Support the Group on guidelines & advice ensuring the Bank's overall activities are in line with BNM's requirements including Shariah requirements.
• Provide accurate and timely legal advice to the Bank's business units and branches, with practical and business-friendly solutions.
• To create solutions by tailoring and structuring product packages to meet the client's needs for the mutual benefit of the Bank/Group and the client.
• Reviewing & finalizing legal documentations for wholesale, business and retail banking business (including SME) for both Islamic & Conventional transactions.
• Compliance with guidelines and protocols set out by the department and other relevant department within the Bank to ensure smooth running of daily work.
• Plan and organize the system flows with the department and within the unit.
• Manage the legal officers to ensure optimum performance and internal customer satisfaction.
• To be proficient in applicable rules and procedures and ensure all staff is aware of applicable rules and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance by having adequate control measures in place to monitor the changes or updates in rules and procedures.
• Approx 5-8 years post-qualifying experience, concentrated practice in an area beneficial or relevant to legal practical and analytical skills are also considered.
