A leading marine company is seeking a Marine Electrical Engineer to ensure the functionality of electrical systems onboard vessels. The role involves maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance with safety standards. Candidates should have a degree in marine engineering and relevant experience, particularly with ASD tug systems. Strong communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia are essential. Immediate availability is preferred.
Ensure the company’s assets, especially on vessels, including electrical and electronic main and auxiliary equipment, are maintained in working condition at all times to meet operational challenges under all circumstances.
Monitor and ensure compliance with the Electrical Planned Maintenance Schedule and standard requirements.
Ensure all vessel safety devices are fully functional at all times, including fire alarm detection systems, main engine safety controls, thruster safety systems, and alarm and trip systems.
Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of marine electrical (AC/DC) and electronic systems onboard vessels.
Troubleshoot electrical problems, provide recommendations for resolution, and prepare estimates and quotations for repairs, replacements, and installations based on diagnostics.
Responsible for routine maintenance in coordination with the Technical Superintendent or Technical Executive for all electrical and electronic equipment onboard, including motors, main switchboards, navigational lights and equipment, batteries, and air conditioning systems.
Provide technical administrative support to the Tug Master and Chief Engineer regarding electrical and electronic equipment.
Engage with crew, vendors, and suppliers in technical discussions.
Assist the Manager of the Electrical & Control Section in developing and reviewing the Electrical Planned Maintenance Schedule.
Advise crew on performing Planned and Corrective Maintenance as needed.
Perform maintenance tasks beyond the crew’s capability.
Conduct feasibility studies for electrical modifications or upgrades.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by superiors.
Requirements / Skills
Preferably hold a Degree in Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, with onboard marine electrical engineering experience considered an advantage (minimum 5 years sea time onboard).
Proactive in following up on tasks with attention to detail.
Familiar with engine room and ship electrical systems, especially ASD tug systems and machinery.
Excellent experience with power and automation control systems.
Broad experience in operation, repair, and maintenance of naval and marine machinery and electrical systems.
Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and operational manuals of naval electrical equipment.
Multitasking, result-oriented, self-motivated, proactive, resourceful, independent, and capable of working with minimal supervision.
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia, both verbal and written.
Willing to work in Kuala Sungai Linggi, Malacca.
Availability to start ASAP is an advantage.
Salary is negotiable based on experience.
Minimum Requirements
Diploma in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 2-3 years of relevant experience.
Sea-going experience as a Watchkeeping Engineer is required.
Experience with AHTS, ASD, Tractor, or other tugboats is an advantage.
Familiarity with ISM/ISPS standards is an advantage.
