Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a skilled Piping Stress Engineer to enhance their Piping discipline. Job Overview:

The Piping Stress Engineer uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the Piping discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the Piping discipline. The Piping Stress Engineer solves complex problems and uses discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Piping Stress Engineer impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the Piping team and other related teams and ensures that they work within the appropriate guidelines and policies.

Performs engineering task related to design engineering, analysis, and calculations, applying the content and application of McDermott and industry standards, codes, and guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8-15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultants predominantly performing detail design
  • Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of a professional engineering society
  • Flexible for Business Travelling

  • Detailed knowledge of Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design Phases of Projects
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of design techniques and application of standards, codes, and guidelines
  • Familiar with all Piping Sub-Disciplines including Design and Modelling, Pipe Stress & Support, Piping Material Engineering, and MTO activities and deliverables
  • Knowledgeable in project coordination and execution skills
  • Conversant with international codes and standards like ANSI, ASME, API, BS, NFPA, etc.
  • Familiar with SP3D / E3D / Navisworks
  • Familiar with stick-built and modularization approach

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand the project contract including scope of work, specifications, schedule and all inter-discipline requirements.
  • Achieve basic knowledge of MDR's business units and interactions including engineering, fabrication, and marine functions.
  • Become familiar with P&IDs, Line List, Equipment Layouts, Piping Specifications and Design Basis.
  • Prepare the Piping Stress Critical Line List and required Engineered Pipe Support datasheets.
  • Prepare the Flexibility Analysis, Wind/Seismic and Pipe Support Fabrication specification.
  • Prepare Material Requisitions, Technical Queries, Technical Bid Evaluations and Purchase Requisitions of Piping Engineered items including Special Engineered and Standard Pipe Supports, as well as expansion joints where applicable.
  • Perform stress analysis on critical piping systems using comprehensive and manual methods on identified complex piping systems.
  • Keep the Piping Project Leadership apprised of all activities, progress and concerns.
  • Be aware of costs relation to own work.
  • Recognize changes to scope and notify the Discipline Lead Engineer.
  • Document substantive communications (communications that result in significant decisions or assignment of actions) and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline Manager.
  • Assist procurement personnel in procuring discipline equipment, materials and services. Procurement assistance includes preparing requisitions, evaluating technical quotations and preparing queries, compiling bid tabulations and recommendations, preparing purchase requisitions, and coordinating with Procurement to expedite vendor documents, as directed by Discipline Lead Engineer.
  • Check engineering performed by others within Discipline.

Reports to: Project: Lead Piping Engineer, Project Engineer, or Project Engineering Manager (As Lead Piping Engineer)
Functional: Department Manager
Liaise With: Designers and Engineers, other Engineering disciplines Leads, Construction and fabrication Groups,
Project Management Team, Document Control, Project Cost Control and Planning Group, Procurement Group, Subcontractors
and Vendors, Clients
Supervises: Associate Engineers and Engineers
