About the job:

A fast-growing construction consultancy is seeking an Associate Director – Mechanical to lead the mechanical design function across building services and data centre projects. This role is ideal for a technically driven professional who brings leadership experience, deep design expertise, and a passion for delivering complex projects.

The role:

As Associate Director – Mechanical, you will oversee the full mechanical design lifecycle for both commercial and mission-critical facilities. You will guide technical delivery, manage project teams, and ensure high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective solutions across all stages—from concept to construction.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and coordination of mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, and plumbing for data centres and building services projects.
  • Ensure technical excellence and compliance with all relevant codes, client requirements, and sustainability targets.
  • Work closely with electrical and other disciplines to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Apply sound understanding of Bill of Quantities (BQ) to support tendering, cost planning, and scope definition.
  • Provide design leadership from concept through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
  • Review design documentation including calculations, layouts, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Represent the consultancy in client, contractor, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Mentor and manage mechanical design teams to ensure consistent quality and development.
  • Contribute to business development, strategic bids, and proposal submissions.

Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 12 years of mechanical design experience, including leadership roles on data centre and commercial projects.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of mechanical systems for both building services and mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP) certification is required
  • Proficient in applying BQ principles during design, tendering, and commercial coordination stages.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, and client-facing skills.
