Summary

Cluster Director of Engineering (for Hyatt Centric Kota Kinabalu and Hyatt Regency Kinabalu)

As a member of the property's Leadership Committee, the Cluster Director of Engineering is responsible for the efficient operation of two hotels, aligning with Hyatt International's corporate strategies and brand standards, while meeting employee, guest, and owner expectations. This position reports to both hotels' General Managers.

The Cluster Director of Engineering oversees the maintenance of the hotel’s M&E systems and ensures the appearance and proper functioning of the hotel. Responsibilities include maintaining the interior and exterior of the building, guest rooms, conducting preventative maintenance, safety inspections, equipment maintenance, parking areas, and common spaces. The role involves staff training on safety procedures, working with vendors and contractors, responding to emergencies, and collaborating on remodeling projects or capital expenditures. The ideal candidate should have comprehensive maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting skills in areas such as painting, HVAC, carpentry, and equipment usage.

  1. Plan, organize, and oversee maintenance activities for structures, facilities, and systems; develop quality control and preventative maintenance programs.
  2. Inspect projects for compliance with building and safety codes.
  3. Manage utility systems and monitor monthly consumption.
  4. Review and negotiate contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  5. Procure supplies and materials for construction projects.
  6. Coordinate with contractors and design professionals to resolve work-related issues.
  7. Participate in the hotel's annual business planning, focusing on revenue maximization and cost control.
  8. Ensure the safety and management of the owner’s assets, providing a positive return on investment.
  9. Collaborate with building code officials, planning/zoning authorities, and community design committees when necessary.
  10. Drive guest satisfaction by exceeding Hyatt’s service targets and delivering caring service.
  11. Contribute to achieving ESG targets by monitoring and optimizing energy consumption and ensuring compliance with ESG regulations.
  12. Lead sustainability initiatives and foster organizational adherence to local ESG standards.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering or Facility Management preferred.
  • 8-10+ years of progressive hotel or building management experience.
  • Experience in hotel pre-opening is advantageous.
  • Service-oriented with professional presentation and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong skills in creative thinking, energy, leadership, communication, customer service, and profitability enhancement.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
