Job Description

Are you an Assistant QS or Commercial Assistant looking for growth and personal development opportunities? I am recruiting for an Assistant QS / Commercial Assistant to join a leading energy provider in the UK, covering projects in the South of England from their Basildon office.

Our client expects the successful candidate to be eager to learn and develop within the commercial team, offering significant long-term growth opportunities in a thriving sector with increasing investment. Reporting to the Senior QS, this role will support the business unit by managing the contractual and financial aspects of projects within the Networks (South) business. This includes large electrical and civil frameworks, major standalone projects with UKPN, across DNP&P Major Projects. Additionally, the role involves activities to ensure successful P&L, cash flow, and working capital management.

Working with the support of the Commercial Team, key responsibilities include:

  1. Manage Costs
  2. Provide Cash Flow Forecasts
  3. Assist Project Teams with measurement and valuations for applications, variations, and final accounts with clients and suppliers
  4. Identify and notify Early Warnings and Compensation Events
  5. Assist with CVR creation and management
  6. Conduct monthly project reviews
  7. Support dispute and defect processes with clients
  8. Attend client progress meetings
  9. Follow procedures for Client Work Approval
  10. Post-audit of works commercially
  11. Manage invoicing and debts
  12. Maintain effective communication at all levels
  13. Supply chain management
  14. Contribute innovative ideas and continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a commercial or similar role - Essential
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, including lookups and pivot tables - Essential
  • Good understanding of various contract forms, especially NEC3/4, with practical application skills - Desirable
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related discipline (or relevant HNC and experience) - Desirable
