Job description

· Assist the Pharmacy Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the pharmacy.

· Assist in the dispensing and distribution of drugs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the day-to-day supervision of pharmacy technicians.
2. Screen incoming prescriptions.
3. Ensure medication orders are entered into the dispensing program accurately and software is used correctly.
4. Fill prescriptions according to given directions.
5. Maintain accurate dispensing records, label medications correctly with drug name, strength, quantity, directions, patient's name, and additional info. Conduct second checks on all dispensed medication.
6. Adhere to policies and procedures for dispensing medicines, especially for controlled and expensive drugs.
7. Verify that the correct medication and prescription are given, confirming details on the prescription and label, and dosage instructions.
8. Provide clear instructions to outpatients and discharged patients in a language they understand.
9. Compound preparations as required by nursing units.
10. Dispatch drugs to nursing units securely and carefully.
11. Coordinate with the clinical team regarding patient medications.
12. Record requisitions accurately.
13. Follow SOPs for storage, recording, and requisition of drugs.
14. Maintain minimum stock levels, check expiry dates, and ensure proper storage.
15. Prepare purchase orders, process invoices, and update prices.
16. Generate reports on medication utilization, billing, and inventory levels.
17. Maintain cleanliness and proper condition of dispensary equipment.
18. Ensure safe storage of returned and expired medications.
19. Provide orientation and training to new pharmacy staff.
20. Communicate effectively with the dispensing team to ensure accurate information exchange.
21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Requirements:

• Diploma in Pharmacy or a license issued by the Ministry of Health.
• Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
• Knowledge of drug names and pharmacy math.
• Computer literacy.
