Job Responsibilities and Requirements
The following outlines the key responsibilities and requirements for the position:
1. Animal Care
- Feeding and Hydration: Administer meals and fresh water to hospitalized animals according to their dietary needs or veterinarian instructions.
- Administering Medication: Assist with the administration of prescribed medication to animals, including oral medication and topical treatments.
- Observing Health and Emotional Well-being: Monitor animals for signs of illness or discomfort, report changes to the veterinarian or nurse, and offer comfort to anxious or stressed animals.
- Grooming: Keep animals clean and well-groomed, including brushing and maintaining their bedding.
- Assisting with Procedures: Help restrain animals during examinations, treatments, or minor procedures under veterinary supervision.
2. Facility Maintenance & Cleanliness
- Cleaning and Sanitizing: Regularly clean cages, kennels, and treatment areas to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Waste Disposal: Properly dispose of animal waste, bedding, and other waste materials following clinic protocols.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure medical and feeding equipment is clean and functional.
- Transporting Animals: Safely move animals within the clinic, minimizing stress.
- Assisting with Transfers: Help transfer animals for appointments, surgeries, or emergency care.
3. Inventory & Supply Management
- Inventory Tracking: Monitor inventory levels of food, consumables, and medical supplies, notifying staff when supplies are low.
- Storage: Store supplies safely and according to protocols.
- Wastage: Use supplies efficiently to reduce wastage.
4. Emergency Support
- Assisting in Emergencies: Support in animal stabilization, prepare treatment areas, and ensure supplies are available.
- Handling Critical Cases: Assist veterinary staff with high-stress or large/aggressive animals.
5. Specialized Care (If Applicable)
- Neonatal Care: Assist in caring for young or newborn animals, ensuring warmth, feeding, and medical attention.
- Post-Surgical Care: Monitor recovering animals, administer pain relief, and ensure comfort.
6. Restricted Areas
- Prohibited from entering grooming and boarding areas without veterinarian permission to prevent disease transmission.
7. Additional Duties
Perform any other duties necessary for smooth daily operations.
Job Requirements
- Secondary 3 education or above preferred.
- Experience with animals is advantageous.
- Willingness to work occasional overtime.
