Job description

General Scope

The Production Planning and Material Control (PPMC) Manager is responsible for leading and managing the planning and control of manufacturing operations, ensuring the timely availability of materials and resources to meet production and delivery targets. This role focuses on aligning production schedules with customer demands, optimizing material flow, minimizing inventory costs, and ensuring that both mechanical and PCB components are effectively coordinated throughout the supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning

  • Develop and maintain master production schedules based on sales forecasts, customer orders, and inventory levels.
  • Coordinate with engineering, sales, and operations teams to ensure accurate capacity planning and production timelines.
  • Monitor and adjust production plans in response to changes in demand, resource availability, and material shortages.
  • Balance workload across departments to optimize manufacturing efficiency and on-time delivery.

Material Planning & Control

  • Forecast and plan material requirements based on BOMs (Bill of Materials), lead times, and consumption trends.
  • Ensure timely procurement and availability of raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies to support continuous production.
  • Monitor inventory levels, perform root-cause analysis on variances, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Work closely with suppliers and the procurement team to track deliveries and manage supply chain risks.

Inventory & Data Management

  • Oversee and optimize inventory control systems to maintain accuracy and minimize excess/obsolete stock.
  • Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage planning and material tracking processes.
  • Analyze planning data and generate reports for capacity utilization, material shortages, and schedule adherence.

Team Leadership & Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor a team of production planners and material controllers.
  • Collaborate with production, warehouse, procurement, quality, and logistics teams to ensure cohesive operations and goal alignment.
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning processes, lead time reduction, and material flow efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 6–8 years of experience in production planning and material control, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong background in a manufacturing environment involving mechanical and/or electronic/PCB components.
  • Proven experience working with MRP/ERP systems (e.g., Monitor ERP or equivalent).

Technical Skills:

  • Deep understanding of production workflows, capacity planning, and demand forecasting.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management principles and materials requirements planning (MRP).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Kanban, and JIT (Just-in-Time) principles.
  • Ability to interpret and work with BOMs, routings, and production schedules.

Certifications (Preferred but not required):

  • APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management)
  • Lean Six Sigma certification
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification
