Job description

As a Lead Safety Design Engineer for offshore projects, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and integrity of offshore structures and facilities. You will lead a team of engineers and collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement safety designs that adhere to industry standards and regulations. Your responsibilities will include conducting risk assessments, designing safety systems, overseeing safety reviews, and providing technical guidance to ensure the safe operation of offshore installations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of safety design engineers and coordinate activities to ensure project objectives are met within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments for offshore projects, including offshore platforms, pipelines, and related facilities.
  • Develop safety design philosophies, specifications, and standards for offshore installations, in accordance with industry codes, regulations, and best practices.
  • Design safety systems and features to mitigate identified risks, such as fire and gas detection systems, emergency shutdown systems, and escape and evacuation systems.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as structural, mechanical, and process engineering, to integrate safety requirements into overall project designs.
  • Perform safety reviews, including hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, safety integrity level (SIL) assessments, and safety critical element (SCE) identification.
  • Provide technical support during project execution, including construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up, to ensure safety design requirements are properly implemented.
  • Interface with regulatory authorities, certification bodies, and third-party agencies to obtain approvals and permits for offshore installations.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stay current with industry trends, developments, and regulations related to offshore safety design, and incorporate lessons learned into future projects.

Requirement:

  • Proven experience in safety engineering and design for offshore oil and gas projects, with a focus on offshore platforms, subsea installations, or pipelines.
  • Proficiency in safety analysis techniques, including HAZOP, SIL assessment, and consequence modeling software.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with project management principles and tools, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety excellence and continuous improvement.
