Job description

Location: Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Environmental Officer in accordance with Malaysian environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the construction site to ensure environmental compliance, including adherence to the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
  • Ensure that all site facilities and equipment are maintained to prevent environmental health hazards.
  • Promptly address environmental non-compliance issues and report necessary corrective actions to the Project Manager.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders to resolve environmental concerns effectively and efficiently.
  • Implement environmental control measures as directed by the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia, ensuring compliance with DOE guidelines and best practices.
  • Prepare and submit environmental documentation, including reports and plans, to the DOE and other regulatory authorities as required.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments and recommend sustainability initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of construction activities.
  • Deliver environmental training and awareness programs to project personnel to promote a culture of environmental responsibility on-site.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Environmental Professional by the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia.
  • Strong knowledge of Malaysian environmental legislation, including the Environmental Quality Act 1974, and familiarity with industry best practices.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the construction sector.
  • Proven ability to analyze environmental data and recommend practical improvements.
  • Proficient in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience with pollution control systems, environmental monitoring tools, and reporting protocols.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (advantageous).
  • Practical knowledge of environmental risk assessment methodologies.
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
