Description

The primary role of Head, Legal is to provide legal advice and drafting services in relation to legal matters such as structuring of new products, bond and sukuk issuance programmes, IT projects, Purchase Without Recourse, reverse mortgage, mortgage guarantee products, staff disciplinary for the Company or Group and other projects or subject matter as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer & Company Secretary.

A detailed description is set out below:

• Drafting and Reviewing
• Undertakes drafting of board papers and memos to board of directors and senior management in relation to legal matters.
• Undertakes the drafting and/or reviewing of legal and quasi-legal documents and proposals prepared by counterparties and/or external solicitors.
• Liaises, communicates, and negotiates with internal departments, senior management, external counterparties, regulatory authorities, solicitors, trustees and other parties in relation to
• Conducts research and provides advice on legal issues affecting company's and Group's operations.
• Provides legal advice on staff loans, including advice on and monitoring of enforcement of security and recovery proceedings.
• Plans and undertakes legal due diligence on sampling of counterparty assets prior to sale (including the review of security documentation and the preparation of due diligence reports).
• Liaising and/or negotiating with financial institutions, solicitors, regulatory authorities, service providers and other third parties in relation to agreements, opinions, applications and submissions to regulatory authorities.
• Research and Legal Advice
• Conducts research and provides advice on legal issues affecting company's and Group's operations.

• Liaising and/or negotiating with financial institutions, solicitors, regulatory authorities, service providers and other third parties in relation to agreements, opinions, applications and submissions to regulatory authorities.
• Responsible for department management and performance planning.
• This includes providing leadership and direction to the staff as well as supervising staff performance, staff discipline and reviewing staff job functions to ensure smooth running of the department.
• Responsible for departmental budget and financial management.
  
  

Requirements:

• A recognized bachelor's or master's degree in law (LLB/LLM)
• Chartered Institute of Secretaries (ICSA) is an advantageAt least 7 years of experience in legal practice with experience in litigation (preferably broad-based general litigation)
• At least 7 years of in-house experience with corporates /banks/ regulatory bodies
• Familiarity with legal, shariah and regulatory framework for the financial services industry and Malaysian capital markets documentation will be an advantage.
• Demonstrates an unyielding personal integrity.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Good English – spoken and written
• Diligent in the performance of duties
• Good presentation skills
