Senior Application Specialist – Automated Discovery in Configuration Management

As an Application Specialist for Automated Discovery in Configuration Management, you will be responsible for the operation and further development of discovery and CMDB solutions. You ensure that IT components are automatically detected, accurately recorded, and mapped within the central Configuration Management System. In this role, you will collaborate closely with IT architects, system administrators, and service management teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and further develop applications for automated detection of IT components (Discovery).
- Operate and maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
- Integrate discovery processes with existing IT service management tools.
- Optimize data models and ensure data quality within the CMDB.
- Develop scripts (mainly in Python) to extract configuration data from systems and integrate it into the CMDB.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues within the CMDB and discovery processes.
- Consult internal stakeholders on architecture, data integration, and use of the CMDB.
- Support audits and ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Solid knowledge of datacentre and cloud system architecture.
- Experience in administration of Windows and Linux systems.
- Strong Python scripting skills, particularly in automation.
- Practical experience in data modeling within CMDB systems (e.g., OpenText uCMDB, ServiceNow CMDB, BMC Helix CMDB or similar).
- Analytical thinking and a structured, independent working style.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for delivering high-quality solutions.
- Excellent team spirit and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
