Senior Engineer, Firmware Engineering (Firmware Validation)

This position is based in Western Digital Tech and Regional Center (M), which is a Center of Excellence located in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. It is currently only open to Malaysians as there is a limitation of expatriate hiring in the guideline.

What You Will Do

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Be part of the development team that validates and delivers quality firmware for Enterprise data storage products.
2. Learn and understand complex technical hard drive specifications and apply that knowledge to enhance test suite and test processes.
3. Execute regression and end-to-end scenario test cases to validate business, system, and operational requirements.
4. Develop software tools to improve test processes.
5. Proactively seize test suite quality improvement plans with a data analytic approach.
6. Devise strategies for in-depth functionality and compatibility testing of complex drive features.
7. Collaborate with Test Dev engineers, Firmware Engineers, and other functional teams, independently in issue resolutions.
8. Familiar with using Protocol Analyzers to understand and analyze traces for failure investigation.

Qualifications REQUIRED

1. Bachelor or Master in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering or equivalent required.
2. Minimum 2 years of working experience in the relevant field or software/firmware test experience.
3. Capable of quickly learning hardware, systems, tools, and methodologies.
4. Must have a high degree of problem-solving skills and be solutions-oriented.
5. Ability to effectively manage projects and tasks to deliver deadlines and commitments.
6. Self-motivated to work both supervised and unsupervised as part of the validation team.
7. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication in both written and verbal.
8. Able to work under pressure for quick resolution and delivery.

DESIRED SKILLS and/or EXPERIENCE

1. Knowledge of storage protocols: SATA and SAS.
2. Programming language skills (C, C++, Java, Python).
3. Experience in testing/product engineering.
4. Hardware and software debugging skills.
