Job description

National Instruments has an immediate opening for a subject matter authority to support export compliance operations. The qualified candidate will proactively engage with internal customers (Sales, Operations team) to understand business needs and export control impacts. Develop & clearly communicate export regulatory mentorship to internal business departments and/or distributors/ partners

The position requires the ability to understand technical and regulatory concepts under the supervision of Export Compliance Manager. The position will be located at NI Penang, Malaysia. Reports locally to NI Malaysia Trade Compliance Manager.


In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Day to day operations for order screening regarding China/Hongkong/Taiwan high risk orders through the automatic export screening tool.
  • Collect End User Statement from sales/customers if needed, and handle the documents.
  • Escalate high-risk orders to management team along with a corresponding risk analysis.
  • Daily review customer’s background based on the criteria
  • Prepare documents to apply for applicable export license and follow up the process
  • Support annual compliance audit for distributors and partners.
  • Support drafting internal export compliance operation SOPs based on daily practice.
  • Review RPL inquires raised by sales, services department.
  • Deliver Export Control training to internal customers.
  • Stay updated on Export Control regulations and share them with internal partners.
Who You Are:
  • Support customer inquiries about US/China/Hong Kong/Taiwan Export control related inquires.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. (Preferred Major: Electronic or mechanical Engineering, International Trade, International Business, Economics, Law, Supply Chain, Logistics or equivalent.)
  • Internship experience or up to 1–2 years of import/export related work experience is a plus, but not required.

  • Strong individual contributor, ability to learn and understand US export control regulations and China/Hongkong/Taiwan Customs & trade rules & regulations.
  • Willingness to learn and master the knowledge related to NI products and applications.

  • Ability to manage projects and create ideas for continuous improvements possibilities. Can carry out local initiatives from start to finish.
  • Ability to detect gaps and propose the needed solutions.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task.
  • Strong attention to detail and strong interest in learning regulations.
  • Initiative to undertake additional responsibilities
