We are seeking an inspirational, highly motivated, and experienced teacher to join our English as an Additional Language (EAL) Department. This role plays a vital part in supporting students with English as an Additional Language, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential across secondary school. The successful candidate will be instrumental in raising the standard of English and supporting students’ academic and personal growth. Experience teaching IELTS would be an advantage.

EAL Support
  • Deliver targeted English language support to students across Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4;
  • Assess students’ English proficiency using CEFR levels and contribute to their language development plans;
  • Collaborate with subject teachers to ensure that EAL students can access and succeed in the mainstream curriculum;
  • Provide clear feedback on progress to students, parents, and staff.
Planning and Collaboration
  • Plan and prepare engaging, inclusive, and differentiated lessons according to student needs;
  • Contribute to the creation and sharing of teaching materials and resources within the department;
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental and whole-school meetings;
  • Work with pastoral and academic teams to support student wellbeing and academic development.
IELTS Preparation (if applicable)
  • Provide IELTS preparation lessons for students aiming to meet university entrance requirements;
  • Develop and implement resources and mock assessments tailored for IELTS readiness;
  • Monitor student progress in IELTS and adjust teaching accordingly;
  • Support students in understanding the structure, criteria, and expectations of the IELTS examination.
Tracking and Communication
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and language support;
  • Report on student development in written reports and parent-teacher consultations;
  • Support admissions by assessing new students’ English levels upon entry;
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child’s EAL progress.
Personal Characteristics and Skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with wider school staff;
  • High level of initiative and flexibility;
  • Culturally responsive and sensitive to diverse student backgrounds;
  • Organised, proactive, and reflective in practice;
  • Competent in using technology to support teaching and learning;

Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in a relevant subject (e.g., Education, English, TESOL, or related discipline);
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching EAL or ESL students;
  • Experience in a secondary school setting;
  • Familiarity with CEFR and language assessment tools;
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, CELTA, TESOL);
  • Experience teaching IELTS or exam preparation courses;
  • Experience in international or multicultural school environments.
