NIPSEA Group champions sustainability leadership from the very top. The Group CEO leads the company’s sustainability commitments, while our Sustainability Steering Committee (“SSC”) oversees group level initiatives. The Group embraces a collaborative approach to sustainability by harnessing the expertise of our department leaders, who serve as strategic advisors for our ESG strategies, aiding the identification of key ESG issues. Through this collaborative effort, we ensure alignment across our 5 sustainability pillars: Governance, Environment & Safety, Innovation & Product Stewardship, Sustainable Procurement, and People & Community.
Position Objective & Overview
The Group ESG Senior Manager / Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing an organization-wide ESG strategy to ensure responsible and sustainable business practices. This role coordinates across multiple business units and regions to align ESG objectives with corporate goals, drive stakeholder engagement, and ensure transparent reporting on ESG initiatives and performance.
The candidate will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, across multiple business units and regions within the organisation, to build a culture of sustainability and to position the NIPSEA Group as a leader in sustainable business practices. The candidate will also be expected to work with partner companies within the Nippon Paint Group to establish consistent and pragmatic approaches in the implementation of ESG programs.
Key Responsibilities
(A) Primary Responsibilities
1. ESG Strategy Development and Implementation
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive ESG strategy, with clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Align ESG initiatives with company goals, brand values, and stakeholder expectations.
- Establish ESG goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), and reporting frameworks across the organization.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
- Act as the key point of contact for ESG matters with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, NGOs, and industry associations.
- Collaborate with internal departments to embed ESG considerations into decision-making and operational practices.
- Work in partnership with the ESG People pillar leaders to organize training and awareness programs to employees and promote a culture of responsibility across the organization.
3. ESG Reporting and Performance Tracking
- Lead the preparation and publication of annual ESG reports, highlighting achievements, progress, and future targets.
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of ESG metrics in accordance with existing standards and framework like UN SDGs, GRI, SASB, TCFD and new compliance standards like ISSB, ESRS, CSRD that become relevant to the Group going forward.
- Communicate ESG performance to internal and external stakeholders, including NGOs regulatory bodies, and the public.
4. Risk Assessment and Management
- Identify and assess ESG-related risks, including climate risk, regulatory risk, and reputational risk.
- Work with risk management teams (CRA department) to integrate ESG risk assessment into the company’s overall risk management framework.
- Develop action plans and operational measures to manage and mitigate identified ESG risks.
5. Continuous Improvement
- Research ESG best practices, trends, and emerging frameworks, and identify opportunities to enhance ESG initiatives.
- Champion new programs and pilot projects that drive sustainable solutions and measurable positive impacts.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and benchmarking with industry peers to ensure the organization stays at the forefront of ESG leadership.
6. ESG Digital Platform
- Lead the roll-out and implementation of an ESG digital platform to streamline data collection, performance tracking and reporting across the Group.
- Monitor platform performance and usage analytics; gather feedback and work with vendors or vendor for continuous enhancements.
- Leverage platform insights to support internal decision-making, stakeholder disclosures, and scenario planning for sustainability strategy.
(B) Secondary Responsibilities
1. Environmental Sustainability Management
- Support the ESG Environment pillar leaders to drive environmental initiatives focused on carbon reduction, energy efficiency, waste reduction & recycling and water conservation.
- Monitor environmental risks and supervise the roll-out of group-wide mitigation strategies to enhance resilience and sustainability across operations.
- Support the Carbon Intensity and Environmental Impact committee (comprising of ESG Environment, Innovation and Sustainable procurement pillar leaders) to oversee group-wide efforts to reduce the organisation and product carbon footprint.
2. Social Impact and Responsibility
- Support the ESG People pillar and ESG Safety pillar leaders to implement programs related to social responsibility, including diversity and inclusion, employee well-being and workplace safety respectively.
- Support the ESG Community pilar leaders to engage employees in volunteerism and other social impact projects to strengthen corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts and community development.
- Support the ESG Sustainable Procurement leaders to drive initiatives for upstream supply chain transparency and ethical sourcing (human rights and working conditions)
3. Governance and Policy Development
- Support the ESG Governance Pillar leader in coordinating policies roll-out by Nippon Paint Holdings that guide ethical, responsible practices, and sustainable business operations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant ESG standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance best practices.
- Assist the relevant ESG pillar leaders in creating and maintaining policies related to responsible business conduct and environmental stewardship.
- Monitor closely the adoption period for new financial reporting standards on sustainability-related (IFRS S1) and climate-related (IFRS S2) disclosure across the Group, and coordinate the implementation activities at country-level.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Marketing, Business or related fields.
- 8+ years of experience in ESG, Sustainability, Marketing or Corporate Communication roles, ideally within a multinational or large organization.
- Strong knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards, and best practices (e.g., GRI, SASB, CDP, TCFD, ISSB).
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and project management skills.
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong communication and reporting skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear, concise manner.
- Ability to travel occasionally within Asia is required (approximately 20-30% of travel required).
