Purpose of Role
We are seeking askilled, proactive, and reliable Design & Technology Technicianto support the smooth and safe operation of our thriving Design & Technology department. This is an essential role within the team, ensuring that practical work is prepared to a high standard, resources are maintained, and students are supported in a safe, well-organised environment.
We are looking for someone who:

ISP Key Responsibilities
1. Lesson Preparation & Support
- Organise, prepare, and manage all equipment and materials for practical lessons as directed by the Head of Department and teaching staff.
- Set up, test, and clear away resources and tools before and after lessons.
- Provide in-class support during practical lessons, offering technical assistance and promoting safe working practices.
2. Maintenance & Safety
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free workshop and prep areas.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are regularly serviced, repaired, and stored securely.
- Carry out routine safety checks in line with departmental and school policies.
- Report any breakages, damage, or safety concerns promptly to the Head of Department.
- Ensure COSHH, Risk Assessments, and Health & Safety procedures are followed at all times.
3. Technical Support & Resource Management
- Operate and maintain a range of workshop machinery (e.g. scroll saw, belt sander, pillar drill) and CAD/CAM equipment (e.g. laser cutter, 3D printer).
- Support students in the correct and safe use of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Assist with the delivery and integration of CAD/CAM, including use of Adobe Illustrator and Onshape (training will be provided if required).
- Monitor and manage stock levels, carry out regular audits, and place timely orders using the school’s procurement system.
- Carry out basic administrative tasks, including ordering, booking maintenance, and updating inventories.
4. Professional Conduct
- Model excellent health and safety practices and workshop discipline at all times.
- Be proactive in suggesting improvements to systems, organisation, and safety.
- Show initiative and work independently, whilst being an effective team player.
- Support the wider Design & Technology team in events, displays, or enrichment activities as required.
Skills,Qualifications and Experience
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a busy environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive, can-do attitude.
- Confidence in using hand and power tools.
- Basic understanding of CAD software and willingness to learn.
- Ability to support and guide students with a variety of learning styles.
Desirable:
- Experience in a school or educational environment.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a workshop setting.
- Competence in using Adobe Illustrator, Onshape, 3D printers, and laser cutters.
- Background in a craft, engineering, or design-related field.
