Job summary

TikTok is seeking a Data Understanding Specialist in Kuala Lumpur to bridge data collection, model development and project delivery for Russian content.

You will coordinate with ML engineers and labellers, define labelling rules, monitor data quality, and manage Russian-speaking stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality data delivery across the pipeline.

Qualifications

• Russian fluency required for communication with Russian markets and stakeholders; English fluency is the working language.
• At least 1 year of experience with data/business analytics education or experience.
• Proficiency in data interpretation and analysis; interest in AI/ML, especially data annotation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for liaising with requestors and labellers.
• Some project management experience with ability to manage multiple tasks in a data environment.
• Demonstrates learning agility with strong problem-solving skills.
• Strong technical skills in Excel, SQL and scripting languages (Python, R) are a plus.
• Self-starter who is driven to deliver impactful outcomes.

Team Introduction
TikTok DCC (Data Cycling Centre):
The team focuses on building data-driven solutions and enhancing content understanding for both internal stakeholders and external users, aiming to solve significant problems through a combination of human and direct content understanding

About the role:
A Data Understanding Specialist (Russian speaking) is a critical player at the junction of data collection, model development, and project success. Their main responsibility is to act as a bridge between machine learning engineers and labellers, ensuring the accurate application of structure to unstructured data for Russian content such as video, images, text, etc. supporting the building of world class machine learning solutions.

Labelling rules clarification and training

• Define clear and unambiguous labelling rules for Russian-content in the Russian market to ensure high quality labelling output
• Simplify labelling rules to reduce contextual knowledge for labelling while providing training to Russian labellers if needed
• Ensure that labelling rules meet model training requirements for the Russian market

Quality improvement and assurance

• Monitor and review quality of labelled data for the Russian market
• Timely root-cause identification of quality issues for remediation
• Identify opportunities and areas of improvement to optimize delivery

Project management

• Deliver projects on time and on target flagging any key risks that arise
• Deep dive into issues that arise during project lifecycle with solutions that ensure delivery
• Manage Russian-speaking stakeholders to drive transparency across the data delivery pipeline

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification(s):

• Fluency in Russian is required as the role requires communication with Russian markets & stakeholders, as well as fluency in English as it is the working language.
• Minimum 1 year experience with data/business analytics education/experience
• Proficiency in data interpretation and analysis; Interest in AI and Machine Learning concepts, particularly in the field of data annotation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and effective communication with both requestors and labellers
• Some experience in project management with organizational skills to manage multiple tasks concurrently, preferably in a data environment
• Demonstrates learning agility with strong problem solving skills
