Job summary

Fugro-Geoteam AS in Malaysia seeks a Data Specialist 2 to handle post-processing of navigation, positioning, bathymetric and multibeam data, and to operate GIS and CAD systems for producing GIS databases and charts.

You will process survey data, create GIS databases and charts, assess data quality, support tendering, and help develop workflows with the Data Centre Manager to improve procedures and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Surveying (Land/Hydrography), Geoscience, GIS or related.
• Very strong communication skills with excellent written and spoken English.
• Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD and data processing software.
• Must have the right to live and work in Malaysia.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Data Specialist 2 is responsible for the post processing of data including (but not limited to) navigation, positioning, bathymetric, multibeam backscatter and the operation of GIS and CAD systems for the production of GIS databases and charts.

Responsibilities

• Undertake processing of survey data such as navigation, positioning, echo sounder and backscatter data acquired from the field.
• Produce GIS databases and survey charts compliant with Fugro or client specific standards as required.
• Evaluate the quality and presentation of data received from the field, ensuring that contract specifications have been met.
• Support survey preparation and tendering activities by processing data, preparing line plans and charts as required.
• Assist the Data Centre Manager to develop and maintain the templates, procedures, work practices and standards relating to processing, charting and GIS.
• Drive continuous improvement of processing, GIS and charting workflows by critically evaluating current procedures and making suggestions for improvements and efficiency savings.
• Actively support and comply with all company policies (HR, QA, HSSE, ICT) and standards, leading by example.

Requirements

• Experience: 0 - 2 years
• Degree (or equivalent) in Surveying (Land/Hydrography), Geoscience, GIS or a closely related field
• Very strong communication skills with an excellent command of written and spoken English
• Experienced user of ERSI ArcGIS, AutoCAD and data processing software packages
• Candidates must have the right to live and work in Malaysia.

Desirable Software Experience

• AutoCAD for north-up and alignment chart creation
• ESRI ArcGIS for SSDM creation
• Geomedia/ MakaiPlan for GIS database deliverables
• Fledermaus and/or CARIS for multibeam echo sounder processing
• Experience with development software such as Microsoft .NET, Javascript and Python desirable.
