Job Responsibilities:
The Privacy Counsel, APAC, will play a crucial role in providing day-to-day legal expertise and support to the business within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region on a broad array of privacy law matters. The responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with commercial teams to ensure that client contracts and agreements with suppliers or third parties comply with all relevant privacy laws.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating privacy and data protection language for the company’s client, supplier, and third-party agreements.
- Working collaboratively within the OneTrust system to review initiatives for compliance with privacy laws, conducting privacy impact assessments, and developing solutions that address privacy risks.
- Advising on data privacy incidents and providing legal counsel on notification obligations and best standards for communication, as well as leading regulatory interactions.
- Establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with members of the business, working proactively to identify, mitigate, and address privacy risks.
- Assisting business and shared services teams in responding to requests from individuals with common rights under applicable data protection laws concerning their personal information.
- Supporting projects designed to maintain privacy compliance and raising awareness throughout the organization of the company's approach to privacy and its dedication to privacy obligations globally.
- Providing regular privacy training and communications to business and shared services teams within the Asia-Pacific region.
- Keeping abreast of regulatory developments and analyzing existing and new legislative and regulatory developments to ensure alignment with evolving requirements.
- Supporting the APAC Privacy Counsel Lead in her expanded role as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) of the company in Singapore.
Education and Experience Information:
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience with a focus on privacy and data protection law and regulation. Experience with specific regional laws such as the China Data Protection Laws, Hong Kong Personal Data Protection, India Information Technology Act, and others across the APAC region is crucial.
- Certification in CIPP or the ability to demonstrate equivalent knowledge.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, especially those concerning privacy and data protection provisions and addenda.
- Experience working with OneTrust is preferred.
- Experience in interpreting and implementing privacy programs.
- A self-motivated approach with the ability to learn quickly, identify and resolve legal and business issues, drive projects, and earn the confidence of partners.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
