Job summary

Solara Holdings Sdn Bhd is seeking a field technician to install, terminate, and test copper and fiber cabling within data hall environments. You will read drawings, manage as-built records, and support MACs in coordination with the operations team.

You will supervise site staff, plan manpower, and coordinate with clients to provide project updates, while ensuring compliance with safety protocols and QA/QC requirements.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Certificate in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or related technical field.
• Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, termination, and OTDR testing preferred.
• Confident communicator with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test copper and fiber cabling in data hall environments.
• Read technical drawings and cable schedules; maintain as-built records and documentation.
• Coordinate with operations and QA/QC teams; supervise site staff and manage manpower across shifts.
• Liaise with clients, provide project updates, and escalate issues as needed.

Job description

• - Perform installation, termination, and testing of copper (Cat6/6A) and fiber optic (OM/OS) cabling systems within data hall environments
• - Carry out rack and cabinet installation, containment, and cable management works according to project specifications and industry best practices (e.g. TIA-942, BICSI standards)
• - Conduct fiber testing (OTDR, insertion loss/return loss) and generate accurate as-built test reports
• - Support rack moves, adds, and changes (MACs) in coordination with the operations team
• - Read and interpret technical drawings, rack elevations, and cable schedules
• - Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with data center access protocols, ESD procedures, and site safety requirements
• - Maintain accurate documentation, labelling, and as-built records for all installed infrastructure
• - Troubleshoot connectivity, power, and cabling faults as required
• - Provide basic support on adjacent trades (e.g. containment, power/UPS distribution, environmental monitoring, basic networking checks) when specialist resources are stretched

Project Coordination & Client Management

• - Support day-to-day project management of the data hall delivery works, including tracking progress against schedule, milestones, and deliverables
• - Liaise directly with clients to provide project updates, manage expectations, and resolve on-site issues or queries
• - Prepare and present progress reports, technical updates, and quality/completion reports to clients in scheduled meetings and site walkthroughs
• - Act as a point of escalation for client concerns on-site, coordinating with internal teams to resolve issues promptly
• - Coordinate with QA/QC teams and clients to ensure works meet acceptance criteria and sign-off requirements

Team & Site Management

• - Supervise and coordinate site staff, supervisors, and team leaders assigned under the role, including task assignment, work quality checks, and performance monitoring
• - Plan manpower and resource allocation across shifts/work areas to meet project timelines

Requirements:

• - Diploma/Certificate in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, or related technical field
• - Minimum 2–3 years' experience in structured cabling, data center fit-out, or telecommunications infrastructure works
• - Prior experience supervising site staff or leading small teams strongly preferred
• - Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, termination, and OTDR testing preferred
• - Familiarity with data center environments and safety/access protocols is an advantage
• - Confident communicator, comfortable liaising with and presenting to clients
• - Comfortable picking up adjacent technical, coordination, and people-management tasks beyond core cabling scope
• - Able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on shift/rotational schedules if required
• - Physically fit and willing to work on-site for the duration of the project
• - Team player with good attention to detail, flexible attitude, leadership qualities, and ability to work under project timelines
• - Own transport preferred & willing to be based at project site
