Job summary

Google is seeking an experienced Mechanical/Facilities engineer to oversee uptime, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems in a data center. You will lead commissioning, coordinate vendors, and drive efficiency improvements while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidate has 8+ years in mission-critical facilities and hands-on maintenance skills for HVAC and MEP systems, with strong communication to contractors and teams.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years experience in operating and maintaining mission critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, pharma, semiconductor, refineries, power plants, etc).
• Hands-on skills to perform maintenance on mechanical or MEP systems and independently resolve common failures.
• Required skills: HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance, Safety, Data Center Operations.
• Familiar with safety rules and regulations for operating complex infrastructure.
• Proficient understanding of chillers, AHUs, CRACs, power distribution, transformers, generators, UPS, ATS/STS, PDU/PMM.
• Ability to communicate with contractors performing maintenance or upgrades on these systems.

Job description

Responsible for the uptime, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment in a data center environment. Lead or assist to ensure the mechanical system's compliance including local legal and Environmental Health and Safety policies. Work proactively for ensuring mechanical system reliability and manage and support mechanical system operation.

Key responsibilities

Provide root cause analysis (RCA), recovery and prevention actions for service failure

Prepare and execute operation procedures, respond to work requests and service failures, and provide operational and technical expertise

Lead or support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure, and coordinate vendor support for repairs and project implementation

Lead or assist commissioning activities on Level 4 - Functional test and L5 - Integrated System Test (IST)

Continuous improvement on site WUE & PUE, operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact

Develop understanding of infrastructure design and sequence of operation

Prepare and conduct training and sharing to the team

Ensure compliance with all site environmental health and safety policies

Provide tracking and trending of operational characteristics

Lead or assist mechanical efficiency improvement projects and system maintenance program including preparing technical specifications, procurement and maintenance vendor performance management

About you

At least 8 years experience in operating and maintaining mission critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, pharma, semiconductor, refineries, power plants, etc)

Possess hands‑on skills that qualify to perform maintenance on mechanical or MEP systems and capable of independently resolving common system failures

Required skills: HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance, Safety, Data Center Operations

Associate's degree, trade school certification or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field

Familiar with safety rules and regulations associated with operating complex infrastructure

Excellent understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including: chillers, air handling units, CRAC units, power feeders / distribution, transformers, generators, switchgears, UPS systems, ATS/STS units and PDU/PMM units

Ability to communicate intelligently and effectively with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on these systems

Commissioning experience of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems (chillers, cooling tower, fire system, air handling units etc.) which include air and water side systems

Registered Electrical Energy Manager

Able to work 12 hour rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
