Job summary

Google is seeking a Facilities Technician to maintain and monitor data center electrical and HVAC systems, ensuring uptime and safety. The role includes operating, monitoring, and supporting facilities conditions, leading electrical system compliance, and coordinating commissioning activities for new projects.

You'll work 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and collaborate with contractors while applying safety guidelines and environmental health standards across sites.

Qualifications

• 5 years of electrical experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
• Ability to perform material handling tasks up to 50 lbs (23 kg) using safety equipment.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and shifts.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage data center electrical systems, including medium and low voltage, ensuring uptime through maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and execution of operational procedures.
• Conduct root cause analysis for service failures and drive improvements in site power and reliability.
• Lead startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into the facilities infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with environmental health, safety policies, and legal requirements; provide training to the team.
• Maintain operational availability with 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Minimum qualifications

• Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of electrical experience (e.g., electrical testing equipment or electrical distribution) in an industrial or commercial environment.
• Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment, the required use of safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment like safety harnesses in accordance with safety and ergonomic guidelines and assessments.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts.

Preferred qualifications

• 5 years of experience in maintenance of electrical distribution systems or construction/technical environment or a related field.
• Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
• Knowledge of electrical systems used in a data center environment (e.g., Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units).
• Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.

About The Job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components).

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Facilities Technician, you will operate, monitor, and support physical facilities conditions for our data centers. You will lead and ensure the electrical system compliance including local legal and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies. You will ensure electrical system reliability, and lead the commissioning activities functional test and Integrated System Test (IST). You will manage and support electrical system operation, and lead the electrical system maintenance program including preparing the technical specification, procurement and maintenance vendor performance management.

• Lead and support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into the facilities infrastructure, coordinating vendor support and participating in system design reviews for new projects and modifications.
• Ensure compliance with all site environmental health, safety policies, and legal requirements, while developing infrastructure knowledge and providing training to the team.
• Maintain operational availability by working 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
