Job description

As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our datacenters operational. Your responsibilities include coordinating with suppliers/vendors, ensuring safe work environments, understanding critical environment equipment, performing maintenance, responding to onsite incidents, and monitoring equipment performance using telemetry and other platforms.

Responsibilities
  1. Serve as an operations specialist in a major area of CE operations (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators), handling advanced tasks independently.
  2. Inspect and supervise critical environment-related facility equipment and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions, escalating issues as needed.
  3. Use the internal computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track equipment assets and complete work orders.
  4. Respond swiftly to onsite incidents, leading response teams and coordinating repairs without supervision.
  5. Develop and update emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  6. Perform various maintenance types (planned, predictive, corrective) following established procedures for equipment such as electrical and cooling systems.
  7. Understand, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and systems within your trained discipline.
  8. Provide troubleshooting guidance to lower-level colleagues.
  9. Follow safety and security protocols, including job hazard assessments and environmental health and safety requirements.
  10. Embody Microsoft’s culture and values.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Certified Chargeman qualification (e.g., AO to A4)
  • High School Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with systems such as UPS, Genset, ATS, BMS, EPMS
  • 5+ years of experience in mission-critical environments or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work shifts, including non-standard hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
Background Check Requirements

Must pass Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screenings, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check every two years.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of mission-critical experience with a high school diploma, degree, or equivalent
  • OR associate’s degree or trade certification plus 2+ years of relevant experience
