Credit Controller – Port Services, Asia Pacific

The position

We are looking for a Credit Controller who will be functionally reporting to the Regional Credit Manager – Port Services, Asia Pacific.

About the location/department

The position will be located in Kuala Lumpur, which is the heart of the city and easily accessible by public transportation.

What you will be doing
  • Act in accordance with all applicable credit processes and policies.
  • Follow up on outstanding debts with contracted customers regarding payment status in accordance with agreed payment terms.
  • Generate and send out Statement of Accounts (SOA) to customers as per the agreed date or as mutually decided.
  • Gather information required to assist in investigations and resolution of Final DA Settlement disputes.
  • Coordinate funds allocation instructions to the Cash collector for remittance of the balance amount through SharePoint (Settlement allocation).
  • Prepare account reconciliations for contracted customers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and regular communication with customers; make follow-up calls on outstanding amounts.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including SPOT credit controllers, Sales teams, Operations/Port teams, DA teams, and Finance teams.
  • Assist customers, Sales teams, and port networks with credit-related matters.
  • Escalate cases when necessary to the relevant internal teams.
  • Provide backup support for team members when required.
Who you are
  • Minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant credit or accounting courses.
  • Experience in the shipping industry is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to meet deadlines through effective time management and prioritization.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English.
  • Excellent telephone manners – assertive yet customer-friendly.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word) with good keyboard skills and general computer literacy.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic, and professional.
  • A team player who works well in a collaborative environment.
