Job description

ECM Libra Group is an operator-investor platform with active positions across hospitality and education in Asia.In hospitality, the Group owns and operates the Ormond Group, with a portfolio of more than 2,500 keys across the region. Flagship assets include the award-winning The Chow Kit and Tune Hotel KLIA2, which has been recognised as Asia’s best airport hotel. Alongside owned hotels, the Group is building an asset-light third-party management business and currently manages the luxury five-star The RuMa Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on behalf of its owners.

Growth will come through a combination of selectively expanding the owned portfolio in affordable luxury and lifestyle hotels and scaling management partnerships, including entry into new segments such as beach and ski resorts for the aspirational traveller.

Within the education platform, ECM Libra Group owns and operates Epsom College in Malaysia (Asia’s leading boarding school) and holds the Asia-wide licence for the Epsom College brand. Opening Epsom College Tokyo and building a network of schools across Asia across premium, mid-market and affordable segments. Linked initiatives include an enrichment business with sporting academies in partnership with Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, Golfzon Leadbetter Academy and LaLiga, and a B2B expedition business leveraging hotel assets in Borneo and Hakuba.

Investments are opportunistic across hospitality, education and adjacent ventures. This is not a passive investing role. You will review opportunities, support transaction structuring and negotiations, and then take ownership of projects that make the business successful. The role blends financial analysis with hands-on delivery, including partnership development, commercial problem-solving, and revenue generation.

Location: Kuala Lumpur. Travel: frequent. Reporting: Head of Investments and CEO. Start: within the next 2 months.

Compensation: from RM10,000/month + performance-linked bonus, plus standard medical and allowances.

Language: fluent written and spoken English required; additional languages a plus.

Role summary

As an Associate, you will lead work streams across opportunity evaluation, transaction structuring, negotiations and post decision execution. You will own the analysis and the recommendation, and you will be expected to drive projects through to measurable outcomes with operating teams. Regardless of prior background, you will be given opportunities to take ownership and deliver. Expect frequent travel and high exposure to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

1) Opportunity evaluation and transaction support

Lead analysis behind new opportunities, including market context, operating drivers, financial performance and key risks.

Review financial statements and operating data to identify strengths, issues, and the levers that change outcomes.

Build and review financial models with robust assumptions, scenarios and sensitivities to support decisions and negotiations.

Organise due diligence inputs so findings are clear, actionable and linked to transaction terms and practical mitigations.

Produce decision-ready recommendations and presentation materials

Support transaction structuring and negotiations through terms analysis, commercial impact assessment, and implementation planning.

2) Portfolio performance and operations

Take ownership of performance improvement workstreams, from diagnosis through to action and tracking impact.

Work directly with hotel and education operators to drive initiatives across pricing, distribution, cost control, service delivery and staffing.

Unblock issues, align teams, and ensure plans convert into measurable results.

Put in place simple tracking and accountability tools that keep actions moving and ensure follow-through.

Support post-transaction integration and early value creation priorities, with clear owners and measurable targets.

3) Business development and partnerships

Drive partner and opportunity sourcing for priority themes (third-party management, education partnerships, enrichment, expeditions).

Lead proposal development, including scope definition, commercial terms, operating approach and governance.

Support negotiations with a focus on practical, deliverable outcomes for both parties.

Analyse commercial performance (pipeline, conversion, channel effectiveness, pricing), propose actions, and drive execution with teams.

Maintain momentum across stakeholders and ensure next steps are clear, owned and delivered.

4) Strategy and new ventures

Lead market mapping for new segments and geographies, grounded in data and practical constraints.

Shape new venture concepts into executable business plans, including economics, operating model and launch sequencing.

Drive launch readiness: timeline, resourcing, budgets, risks and decision points, and ensure execution is followed through.

Coordinate cross-functional teams so initiatives reach operational reality.

Candidate profile

4–5 years relevant experience. Backgrounds may include audit and assurance, corporate finance, consulting corporate development, analytics, or operating roles with commercial responsibility.

Demonstrable ability to evaluate financial statements and translate analysis into clear recommendations, including trade-offs.

Strong numeracy, structured thinking and sound judgement under uncertainty.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word, with high standards for accuracy and clarity.

Ability to build reliable financial models with scenarios and sensitivities, backed by strong attention to detail, and able to review others’ work critically.

Strong writing and presentation skills; able to brief senior leadership and influence operating teams.

Practical use of AI tools to improve efficiency, with disciplined checking and confidentiality awareness.

Proactive, takes ownership, and follows through without being asked.

Focused on delivering results, not just producing analysis or reports.

Comfortable owning ambiguous workstreams and driving progress without heavy supervision.

Willingness to travel frequently and execute on-site.

Fluent written and spoken English. Right to work in Malaysia required.

Degree and/or professional qualification (e.g., ICAEW). Demonstrable experience and judgement matter most.
