Job description

Location: Kuala Lumpur, MY


Position summary:


Swiss Re is seeking a qualified actuary to join its regional P&C Actuarial Reserving team, reporting to the Head of Actuarial Reserving P&C SID & China.


The position is responsible for preparing statutory filings and handling statutory matters for the legal entity Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd Malaysia Branch, as well as fulfilling the role of Signing / Appointed Actuary for the branch (both Conventional and Retakaful). The role also involves leading the evaluation and preparation of group reserving for portfolios across Asia markets (Southeast Asia, India, Korea, and Greater China).


Responsibilities:


  1. Serve as the Appointed Actuary for the SRAL Malaysia branch's Conventional reporting and as Signing Actuary for Retakaful reporting.
  2. Lead the evaluation and preparation of group reserving for portfolios of Asia markets.
  3. Maintain knowledge of IFRS17 standards.
  4. Support Appointed Actuaries of other regional branches regarding relevant portfolios.
  5. Represent Swiss Re at actuarial and industry forums, maintaining relationships with senior actuaries in the region.
  6. Collaborate with regulators and internal/external auditors on routine and special matters.
  7. Make recommendations to reserve committees and branch management.
  8. Assist the Head of Actuarial & Reserving APAC with actuarial and statutory reporting.
  9. Engage with underwriting teams regarding reserving feedback and product analysis.
  10. Participate in projects, including internal underwriting audits.
  11. Support other departments such as Finance and Planning.
  12. Lead and develop regional junior actuarial resources in data analytics capabilities.
  13. Supervise junior actuaries in Kuala Lumpur.

Position Requirements:


  • Qualified Actuary.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in Property & Casualty insurance/reinsurance.
  • Degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or finance.
  • Eligibility for Appointed Actuary role in Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd Malaysia Branch; prior statutory role experience preferred.
  • Good understanding of Malaysia's statutory and regulatory environment; knowledge of other APAC countries is advantageous.
  • Strong actuarial valuation and reporting skills, with good understanding of accounting, systems, and investments.
  • Experience with risk-based capital frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Sound business acumen and risk management understanding.
  • Proactive, independent, and self-motivated.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize under pressure.
