Qualifications

Job description

Position summary:


Swiss Re is seeking a qualified actuary to join its regional P&C Actuarial Reserving team, reporting to the Head of Actuarial Reserving P&C SID & China.


The position is responsible for preparing statutory filings and attending to statutory matters for the legal entity Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd Malaysia Branch, as well as fulfilling the role of Signing / Appointed Actuary for the branch (both Conventional and Retakaful). The role also includes leading the evaluation and preparation of group reserving for portfolios of Asia markets (Southeast Asia, India, Korea, and Greater China).


Responsibilities:


  1. Take the responsibilities of the Appointed Actuary for the SRAL Malaysia branch Conventional reporting, and Signing Actuary for SRAL Malaysia branch Retakaful reporting.
  2. Lead the evaluation and preparation of group reserving for portfolios of Asia markets (Southeast Asia, India, Korea, and Greater China).
  3. Maintain knowledge of IFRS17 standards.
  4. Support Appointed Actuaries for other regional branches regarding the portfolios managed by this position.
  5. Represent Swiss Re at actuarial and industry forums; maintain and forge relationships with senior actuaries in the region.
  6. Work with regulators and internal/external auditors on routine and special matters.
  7. Make recommendations to reserve committees and branch management.
  8. Support the Head of Actuarial & Reserving APAC on actuarial matters and statutory reporting as needed.
  9. Engage in discussions with underwriting regarding reserving feedback and product analysis.
  10. Participate in other projects, including internal underwriting audits.
  11. Support other company areas such as Finance and Planning.
  12. Provide leadership to regional junior actuarial resources, fostering their development in data analytics capabilities.
  13. Supervise junior actuaries in the Kuala Lumpur office.

Position Requirements:


  • Qualified Actuary.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in Property & Casualty insurance/reinsurance.
  • University degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or finance.
  • Meet the requirements for Appointed Actuary of Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd Malaysia Branch; previous statutory role experience preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Malaysia statutory and regulatory environments; familiarity with other APAC countries is advantageous.
  • Solid actuarial valuation and reporting experience; strong understanding of accounting, information systems, and investments.
  • Practical experience with risk-based capital frameworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills in complex environments.
  • Strong business acumen and risk management understanding.
  • Proactive, independent, and self-motivated.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative and willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
