Job description
Overview

Our client is seeking a suitably qualified Consultant Radiologist to join their team.

Responsibilities
  1. Clinical Duties:

    • Provide a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service including plain film, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and fluoroscopy.

    • Perform image-guided procedures (biopsies, drainages, etc.) as required by the hospital's service scope.

    • Provide timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate radiology reports.

  2. Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Involvement:

    • Participate in and contribute to MDT meetings (e.g., oncology, orthopaedics, GI, etc.).

    • Collaborate with referring clinicians to optimize patient care and diagnostic strategy.

  3. On-call Service:

    • Participate in the on-call rota (frequency varies by hospital).

    • Provide urgent and emergency imaging interpretation outside of normal working hours.

  4. Governance and Quality:

    • Ensure compliance with HIQA standards and local protocols.

    • Engage in audit, peer review, and quality improvement initiatives.

    • Maintain a safe and efficient radiology department in collaboration with radiographers and radiology nurses.

  5. Teaching & Training:

    • Teach and supervise junior doctors, radiographers, and medical students.

    • Participate in postgraduate medical education and CME activities.

  6. Administrative:

    • Maintain clinical records and comply with GDPR and HSE data protection policies.

    • Assist in service planning, including equipment upgrades and workflow improvements.

Eligibility
  1. Professional Registration:

    • Be registered (or be eligible to register) as a Consultant in the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland, in the Specialty of Radiology.

  2. Experience:

    • Sufficient experience in general radiology (usually a minimum of 5 years post-graduate, with 2 years in specialty training).

    • Fellowship training in a subspecialty (e.g., breast, MSK, neuro, GI, interventional) is desirable.

  3. Language Requirement:

    • Demonstrate proficiency in English.

    • Desirable Skills and Attributes

    • Subspecialty interest aligned with hospital needs (e.g., Breast Imaging, Neuroradiology, Paediatrics, Interventional Radiology).

    • Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Willingness to engage in service development and quality assurance.
