Overview

An International PMC is hiring for 3 positions for Senior Construction Managers and Senior Project Managers (CSA/MEP) with Data Centre Construction Experience to be based in KL/Cyberjaya/Johor Bahru. Client is an international PMC involved in multiple data centre construction projects.

Role Overview

The Construction Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing the construction phase of a high-profile data centre project in Malaysia. The successful candidate will ensure that all site activities are executed in accordance with the project programme, budget, quality standards, statutory requirements, and client expectations. This role requires strong stakeholder engagement skills, technical expertise in data centre or industrial construction, and a proven track record of managing large-scale projects for international clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage on-site construction activities for the assigned data centre project, ensuring work is executed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Oversee and coordinate the performance of contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure adherence to project specifications, schedules, and quality requirements.
  • Implement and maintain effective site management practices in accordance with PMC procedures.
  • Monitor project progress against the programme, identify potential delays, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Manage cost, programme, construction quality, and risk throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and approve method statements, shop drawings, and materials submissions in compliance with project and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with Malaysian construction laws, regulations, and statutory approvals.
  • Act as the primary on-site point of contact for the client, consultants, authorities, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear and effective communication.
  • Prepare and submit regular site progress reports, risk assessments, and other project documentation to senior management and clients.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 8–10 years’ relevant construction management experience, with at least 3–5 years in data centre or large-scale industrial projects.
  • Preferred Background: Data centre construction or mission-critical facilities experience is highly desirable.
  • Education: Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of FIDIC contract administration, Malaysian construction practices, and statutory compliance requirements.
Candidate Preferences
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction project management, with a strong focus on CSA works.
  • Proven track record in early works, sub and superstructure works for large-scale data centre or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of local authority processes, permitting, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing early works packages and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and contract administration skills.
  • Familiarity with technical trades including structural, civil, and architectural disciplines.
MEP Roles (Senior Project Manager / Senior Construction Manager)
  • Project Planning and Management: Developing and managing project schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Coordination: Ensuring seamless coordination between various MEP disciplines and with other project stakeholders.
  • Technical Expertise: Providing technical input and guidance on MEP systems and design.
  • Client Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact for the client, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Budget Management: Monitoring project costs and taking action to stay within budget limitations.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating potential risks that could impact the project.
  • Quality Control: Ensuring that MEP systems are installed and commissioned according to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Overseeing the implementation of safety procedures and regulations on the project site.
  • Progress Reporting: Preparing and delivering regular project progress reports to stakeholders.
  • Team Leadership: Leading and motivating the MEP project team.
  • Contractor Management: Overseeing and managing MEP contractors, ensuring they adhere to contractual agreements and project requirements.
Early Works
  • Prepare and manage early works tender packages, including direct negotiations where applicable.
  • Oversee execution of early works, including:
    • Piling and pile caps
    • In-ground services
Site setup and Logistics
  • Review and coordination of drawings and WS3-4 design drawings
  • Ensure compliance with AHJ (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) requirements for commencement of works.
  • Lead CSA scope from pre-construction through to early works completion.
  • Interface with client, consultants, and contractors to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and quality.
  • Monitor progress, manage risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
Key Notes
  • Experience in CSA works and early works packages preferred.
