Duty Station: GEC-CoSPeC, Kuala Selangor, Selangor
Responsibility Of Position
To lead implementation of GEC projects on the community-based management of forest, peatland and mangrove ecosystems in, Mersing, Johor and Peninsular Malaysia including conservation and restoration, hydrology management, prevention of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and development of sustainable livelihood programmes based on mangrove forest resources for local community groups and other related including
- Provide technical support on best practices for forest, peatland and mangrove management and restoration as well as impact evaluation techniques;
- Implementation of ongoing projects on community-based management of forest, peatland and mangrove conservation and restoration;
- Managing and coordinating nature based product development projects linked to sustainable livelihoods;
- Working with other organisations to establish a design, technology, product development, and vendor strategis;
- Development of new projects and activities in partnership with local government, community groups and private sector as well as with other NGOs;
- Managing and guiding a team of project programme officers, as well as support capacity building, knowledge sharing and resource management to ensure project team is equipped to support GEC’s current and future programmes/ initiatives;
- Supporting measures to empower and enhance the livelihoods of targeted local communities;
- Developing of strategic project implementation plans and supporting the sustainability of existing community programmes;
- Developing linkages and support for collaboration among key stakeholders in Johor and Peninsular Malaysia;
- Development and implementation of awareness and education programmes for school students, local communities and other stakeholders;
Job Requirements
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum supervision;
- A Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (product development, forest / peatland/ mangrove / coastal conservation biology, environmental science, social sciences, natural resource management, climate change or programme management);
- Minimum 4-6 years of relevant working experience involving community based product development or natural resource management;
- Strong people management and leadership skills, with proven ability to mentor and motivate others;
- Willingness to work in field conditions and adaptability to odd working hours;
- Pleasant personality and good PR capabilities;
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, especially within local community and multi-stakeholder contexts;
- Fluent in Malay and English; and
- Possess good writing and communication skills.
