Purpose of Job

The purpose of job is to provide communications and campaigns (if relevant) support and assistance to WWF-Malaysia’s Marine Programme.

As staff of the Conservation Department, the person of this position will be guided by and is expected to contribute towards the achievement of WWF-Malaysia Strategy 2021 to 2030 and Global Biodiversity Framework (or their revised versions) directly or indirectly.

Key Outputs

  1. To work with WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme team members to implement communications and campaigns (if relevant) for the key components of the WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme.
  2. To implement the Marine Communications Workplan in the WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme Strategy document.
  3. Effective and completed communications activities and outputs contributing directly in strategic and measurable ways to key components of WWF-Malaysia’s Marine Programme.
  4. To guide and train, together with the marine communications team, all marine programme colleagues on branding and communications.
  5. Relevant printed and audio/visual communication materials for key components of the WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme (in coordination with the Multimedia, Fundraising, Corporate Communications, and/or Marketing team if needed).
  6. Media engagement plan for the programme, using platforms including but not limited to online and traditional communications.
  7. Updated and current online communications for WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme at http://www.wwf.org.my/ and through other social media networks, as required by the Senior Communications Officer.
  8. Completed media trips and site visits by teams, donors, and other stakeholders.
  9. First-level editing completed for WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme reports in the most relevant and appropriate design, layout, format, branding and language.
  10. To implement communication activities of the programme to target audiences, with other projects within WWF-Malaysia, the WWF network and conservation field, and work closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing.

Major Activities

  1. Lead to develop, implement, evaluate, report and regularly update an integrated communications strategy and budget for the WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme.
  2. Oversee the development and production of audience-specific (external and internal) communication resource materials via various communication platforms, to support and communicate key components, successes and on-going work of the programme (e.g., fact sheets, brochures, exhibit posters, etc.) to help strengthen stakeholder buy-in, maintain conservation momentum and enhance the sustainable management of the programme.
  3. Together with the respective team leaders/managers, coordinate and organise with WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme managers/team leaders, media trips and site visits by donors and other stakeholders.
  4. Assist WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme managers/team leaders and Senior Communications Officer in editing (and re-write, where necessary) and layout of technical reports and documents.
  5. Assist in planning and organising communications and campaign events (where applicable) for key components of the programme.
  6. Assist in profiling Community-based Organisations (CBOs) related to the Marine Programme, through WWF-Malaysia’s websites and social media.
  7. To mobilise media through social media platforms or printed media to support the Programme to increase public and stakeholder awareness on the Programme and its specific components.

In the course of performing the duties as set out in this Job Description, the incumbent may be exposed to challenging working conditions, especially for field-based staff members. WWF-Malaysia does not provide any form of allowance (s) to staff for working in tough field conditions as stated in section 2.4 Bonus & any form of Allowance (s) for tough field conditions, WWF-Malaysia Staff Guidebook on Terms and Conditions of Service, as your salary will commensurate with the duties and responsibilities that the job demands.

Specifications

  1. A bachelor’s degree in mass communication, marketing, journalism or development communication.
  2. Minimum of 2 year’s strong professional background / experience in communications management, development communication, public relations or journalism.
  3. Excellent written and oral skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English. Additional languages will be an advantage.
  4. Excellent management, organisational and analytic skills.
  5. Creative, responsive and diligent.
  6. High propensity for technical / environmental topics and design skills.
  7. General understanding of WWF-Malaysia and environmental communication is an advantage.
  8. Good interpersonal skills, innovative thinking, versatile ability to work in a team and work independently.
  9. Good understanding of current issues especially having knowledge on environmental and conservation issues.

Working Relationships

  1. Develop a close professional working relationship with the Senior Communications Officer to whom you will be reporting to on all related matters and maintain a good working relationship.
  2. Develop a close professional working relationship with the Marine Programme Leader and Director of Communications and Marketing.
  3. In the absence of your supervisor, you should consult the Marine Programme Leader and ultimately, the Director of Communications and Marketing.
  4. Expected to work with others (internal and external) in team-spirit for the good of the organisation and towards meeting its conservation objectives.

Salary Range: Rm3,600 to RM4,800
